This short break takes you off the beaten track to Norway's Vesteralen archipelago, winter home to killer and humpback whales, as well as an excellent place to view the Northern Lights. On this five-day adventure you'll learn to mush huskies, meet reindeer and learn about Sami culture, while your expert guides will maximise your chances of seeing the unforgettable Aurora Borealis.
Your holiday begins as you fly to Evenes, via Oslo, to be met by your local guide and taken on the two-hour scenic transfer to your hotel. Here, you'll enjoy dinner and a welcome drink with your fellow travellers before heading out for, hopefully, a first glimpse of the Northern Lights.
This morning you'll enjoy a typical Scandinavian buffet breakfast before departing for Andenes, the whale capital of the north. Here you'll head out on a RIB boat to the herring spawning grounds, where whales gather to feed. The expert crew will maximise the chances of you meeting pilot, minke, humpback, killer and sperm whales, all the while keeping the whales' safety paramount. Afterwards, you'll return to Sortland by the National Tourist Route along the west coast of Andoya, stopping at some of the most picturesque spots to take in the glorious views. After dinner at your hotel, you'll once again head out in search of the Northern Lights.
This morning you'll learn how to mush a pack of huskies, before heading off with your guide into the wilderness, driving in pairs and taking it in turns to mush. Back at the hotel, you'll enjoy lunch before this afternoon's photo tour with Robert Novak, whose local knowledge and expertise will help you to capture some of the essence of this region. After dinner there'll be another chance to enjoy the stunning Northern Lights.
You'll take it easy this morning with a leisurely breakfast, before a gentle guided hike to give you a good appetite for a campfire lunch. You'll head back to the hotel in time for dinner and a final chance to see the Northern Lights.
This morning you'll visit to the Inga Sami Siida reindeer farm, a 150-year-old family business, where you'll learn more about the myths and magic of Sami culture. You will be treated to a Joik, the traditional song of the Sami, before returning to your hotel to check out. You'll then transfer to the airport for your flight home.
