If you love nature at its best you will simply adore Honduras. And on this adventurous eight day tour of the Central American country you will encounter white-sand beaches, have great snorkeling and diving opportunities, see howler monkeys galore and enjoy world class bird watching in the country's lakes region where the beautiful waterfalls in the outstanding national parks have to be seen to be believed. On this Reefs and Ruins trip you will see colonial style towns, ancient Mayan sites, enjoy a kayak excursion from mangrove swamps to the ocean and have a relaxing three night stay on an island in the Caribbean.
On arrival in San Pedro Sula you will be met by one of our tour representatives and driven the three hours to the pretty highland town of Copan Ruinas. After arriving at your hotel there will be time to relax before going out and exploring this small, colonial style town and perhaps eating at one of the local restaurants.
Today you will visit the famous Mayan site of Copan, which is known as the Paris of Ancient Mayan cities. Copan boasts many amazing creations such as an intricately carved stelae and an amazing hieroglyphic stairway. After touring the site and visiting the museum you return to town for lunch before an afternoon walk in the lush, shady river valley of the Copan Bird Park where a guide will accompany you to see and interact with a number of beautiful tropical birds which have been rescued from all over Honduras
Begin today with a private transfer to your lodge in the Pico Bonito park. This will be followed by an exciting kayak trip that takes you from a mangrove lagoon to the Caribbean Sea. You will follow the winding canals passing through mangrove swamps and watching the abundant wildlife until reaching the ocean. Here you will have a picnic lunch on the beach and the chance to kayak on the open water.
A 25 mile drive today from your lodge to the refuge situated near La Ceiba, which is home to many endangered animal species, found within the many mangrove canals that run from the river Cuero y Salado. Here there is a mixture of both fresh and salt water as the reserve is right at the ocean’s edge. Manatees, monkeys, alligators and a variety of birds are among the highlights of this protected and diverse habitat.
Today you are picked up and driven to the airport at La Ceiba to board your flight to the island of Roatan for a wonderful relaxing three night stay. During your time on Roatan you can sunbath, snorkel, dive, fish or perhaps rent a moped or car to explore the whole of this lovely island.
Roatan Island is an adventure travellers' paradise in the Caribbean with its clear blue skies, sun drenched clear turquoise waters and year round temperatures in the 80s. The island lies 30 miles off the north east coast of Honduras and is 33 miles long and four miles wide. It is a peaceful have, but does have a new golf course in Pristine Bay and a number of shopping malls.
