Nature is one of the big draw cards in Honduras and on this imaginative five day tour you will see so many memorable sights. Outstanding national parks offer up white-sand beaches, great water sports and howler monkeys galore and in the lakes region there is world-class bird-watching, waterfalls and beautiful flora and fauna . . . and there is also terrific diving opportunities. Honduras today is a place of change and a far cry from its ‘Banana Republic’ days. During this fascinating tour you will visit towns and villages, explore ancient Mayan ruins, take an exciting kayak trip from a mangrove lagoon to the open sea and get to see plenty of wildlife and birds.
On arrival in the town of San Pedro Sula you will be met by one of our experienced tour representatives and driven the three hours to the pretty highland town of Copan Ruinas. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax or explore this small, colonial style town where you will stay for the next two nights.
Today you visit the famous Mayan Site of Copan, known as the Paris of Ancient Mayan cities. Copan boasts many amazing creations such as an intricately carved stelae and an amazing hieroglyphic stairway. After touring the site and visiting the museum you return to the town for lunch. In the afternoon walk in the lush, shady river valley of the Copan Bird Park where a guide will accompany you to see and interact with a number of beautiful tropical birds which have been rescued from all over Honduras. Later return to your hotel for dinner.
Start the day with a private transfer to your lodge in the Pico Bonito park. This will be followed by an exciting kayak trip that takes you from a mangrove lagoon to the Caribbean Sea. You will follow the winding canals passing through mangrove swamps and watching the abundant wildlife until you reach the ocean. Here you will enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach before having the chance to kayak on the open water. Overnight in the park lodge.
Today you leave your hotel and travel to this wildlife refuge situated around 25 miles from La Ceiba, which is home to many endangered animal species, found within the mangrove canals that spread from the river Cuero y Salado. Here there is a mixture of both fresh and salt water, the reserve being right at the ocean’s edge. Manatees, monkeys, alligators and a variety of birds are among the highlights of this protected and diverse habitat.
Today you wonderful tour of the hidden gems of Honduras comes to an end. Time for some last minute souvenir shopping or exploring in the nature park before you are collected from your lodge and driven to the international airport in San Pedro Sula in plenty of time for your flight home or to extend you adventure in Central America.
