As you will discover on this Incredible Costa Rica tour, this country is bestowed with an amazing array of natural attractions - majestic volcanoes, misty cloud forests, stunning river valleys and literally hundreds of beautiful beaches along its Pacific and Caribbean coasts. This Central American country also has a fascinating ecological story that is woven into the history of a peaceful and family oriented culture. And on this tour you will have lots of time to relax as well as explore.
On arrival at Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose you will be welcomed by one of our tour representatives who will provide all necessary documents for your trip - including your itinerary day by day, the main contact details and phone numbers necessary. Then you will be driven to the central volcanic mountain range seeing beautiful landscapes on the way to Naranjo town where Chayote Lodge is located. Here you will stay for the next three nights in this character hotel.
You will wake this morning to beautiful views of extensive coffee plantations and the central valley of Costa Rica. After a delicious traditional breakfast with, of course, plenty of fresh coffee a rental car will be dropped off so you can drive around and explore the area. Today you can visit the Poas Volcano, a two hour drive away, which is located in the country's first national park. This is one of the most visited spots due to the volcano's main crater being the world's largest geyser crater.
Another day to relax or go exploring. Possibly visit “Freddo Fresas” where you are taken around a farm and hear all about the rural customs and traditions. Walk among strawberry fields with a local guide collecting and eating the fruit, and try your hand at milking the cows and find out about the art of cheese making. Another option is to visit the coffee plantations of Espiritu Santo, where you will be shown traditional methods of cultivation. There are lots of other activities on offer that can be booked at the hotel.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast you will continue your journey to Arenal Volcano, which is a two and a half hour drive. The scenery is stunning as you pass through villages like Zarcero, Ciudad Quesada and La Fortuna de San Carlos. Then arrive at the foot of the greatest natural attraction in the country - the Arenal Volcano - with its majestic volcanic cone. Check in at the Volcano Lodge and Springs hotel which is your home for the next two nights.
Today is free for you to go exploring. Make sure you visit the Arenal Volcano National Park with its perfect cone shaped volcano. The attraction of this volcano has turned the area into a prime tourist destination with hotels, visitor attractions, adventure activities, hot springs and water sports. You can also experience Arenal Hanging Bridges by taking a walk along a network of suspension bridges, platforms and trails built in the rainforest giving you a different perspective of the wildlife.
Today you continue your journey to Rincon de la Vieja. The first part of the route is through beautiful scenery around the Arenal Lake which is used to produce energy by the government. The Rincon de La Vieja area provides unforgettable scenery that will leave you with great memories. The area is famous for its cowboys and cattle ranching and as well as plenty of dry open fields there are protected forests such as Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park. For the next two nights you stay at Hacienda Guachipelin.
Another day at leisure when you can take a nature hike to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park area. See the bubbling mud, steamy sulphur water ponds and fumaroles, while you explore the trails in the jungle. As you walk, a guide will describe all the secrets of the forest and look out for monkeys, toucans, agoutis and coatis. The park was created to protect the extensive flora, fauna and watersheds around the area where river basins of 32 rivers flow down the flanks of the volcano. There are 257 bird species here and lots of different insects.
Today you travel to the Guanacaste northern Pacific Coast. On the way you can admire the incomparable beauty of the landscapes, which include tropical dry forests. For the next three nights you will be staying at a super hotel where you will enjoy not only the stunning views but also the beautiful beaches with their mature palm trees that rise up from the sand and give shade from the hot sun. You will soon appreciate why Guanacaste is the perfect destination to enjoy nature and relaxation.
After all the travelling today you can relax, soak up the tropical sun around the pool or on one of the beaches, and enjoy all that your resort hotel has to offer. If you still feel active you can consider taking one of a number of tours of the area seeing more of the sights. The region is known for its extensive nature reserves that house an incredible concentration of flora, fauna and natural beauty. In the area are several reserves, natural attractions and many activities which can be arranged at the hotel.
With sun splashed white sand beaches and great Pacific surf, Costa Rica's northwestern province of Guanacaste teems with visitors from around the world throughout the year . . . but there is plenty of room for everyone. The Guanacaste Mountains and national parks offer great hiking and walking.
