Cruise from Barbados and back (7 nights)

Description

Discover sublime landscapes and thrilling experiences as you travel on this who’s who of the Caribbean from Barbados and back visiting Martinique, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago. Relive the Pirates of the Caribbean on the black beaches of St. Vincent before you set sail into the sunset, ready for your next escapade. And sailing on board the luxury cruise ship Silver Wind you enjoy al fresco dining, warm clubby spaces for evening cocktails and all the comforts of your ocean-view suite. On this cruise you have the perfect balance of yacht-like intimacy combined with space and wonderful facilities.

Day 1
Barbados

You luxurious Caribbean cruise begins when you board Silversea's yacht Silver Wind in Bridgetown, Barbados. This bustling capital city, inscribed along with its garrison on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011, is a duty-free port with a compact shopping area. The principal thoroughfare is Broad Street, which leads west from National Heroes Square. A shuttle service operates during the day, if you want to explore on your own, or there are six tours that can be booked on board. You set sail at 10pm.

Day 2
Martinique

Your first port of call on this action packed cruise is Le Marin, on the French island of Martinique. Hidden away in the south of the island, Le Marin is a port of pure tropical splendour. As soon as you step off the gangplank, you are enveloped in its Caribbean breeze. This is an island of hypnotic swaying palms and immaculate white yachts and everywhere you find a fusion of bougainvillea and beaches. It's magnetic beauty owes much to the spectacular Morne Perou.

Day 3
St Kitts & Nevis

Today you arrive at mountainous St. Kitts, the first English settlement in the Leeward Islands, which crams some stunning scenery into its 65 square miles. Vast, brilliant green fields of sugarcane run to the shore and the fertile, lush island has some fascinating natural and historical attractions - a rain forest replete with waterfalls, thick vines, and secret trails, a central mountain range and Brimstone Hill, known in the 18th century as the Gibraltar of the West Indies.

Day 4
Antigua & Barbuda

Old meets new in the province's capital St John's with modern office buildings surrounded by heritage shops and colourful rows of houses. St. John's mixes English and Irish influences, Victorian architecture and modern, traditional music and rock and roll into a heady brew. The arts scene is lively, but overall the city moves at a relaxed pace. For centuries, Newfoundland was the largest supplier of salt cod in the world, and St. John's Harbour was the centre of the trade. Lots to see and do here today and eight tours to choose from.

Day 5
Dominica

Although it's one of the smallest capitals in the Caribbean, Roseau has the highest concentration of inhabitants of any town in the eastern Caribbean. Local vernacular architecture and a bustling marketplace transport visitors back in time. Although you can walk the entire town in about an hour after the Silver Wind docks, you'll get a much better feel for the place on a leisurely stroll appreciating the city's architectural heritage. If you want to see more of the island, there are 12 organised tours available.

Day 6
St Lucia

With a lush interior featuring towering mountains, dense rain forest, fertile valleys, and acres of banana plantations, St. Lucia is mostly distinguished by the Pitons - twin peaks that soar high above the ocean floor on the southwest coast. There are 10 tours on offer today when you arrive at Castries, and you can explore Soufrière in the north. Except for a small area, one main highway circles all of St. Lucia and the road snakes along the coast, cuts across mountains, makes hairpin turns and sheer drops, and reaches dizzying heights.

Day 7
Trinidad & Tobago

Together, the islands of Trinidad and Tobago make up a state and as such are an independent member of the British Commonwealth. Located just off the coast of Venezuela, both islands are excellent getaways offering different attractions. While Trinidad pulses with life, the smaller and unspoiled island of Tobago is the place for a restful and relaxing holiday. Most of its appeal lies in the beautiful scenery and the availability of outdoor activities. Five different tours to choose from at you final port of call.

Day 8
Barbados

Today the Silver Wind docks early back at Bridgetown, capital of Barbados, and your wonderful Caribbean cruise comes to an end. Say farewell to new found friends and do some more sightseeing and souvenir shopping before heading to the airport to catch your flight home. You can extend your holiday by staying on and soaking up the sun at one of the many beach resorts on the island ensuring that you leave with even more great memories.
