Thailand is a truly wonderful holiday destination with so much history, colour, fabulous beaches and places of interest to visit. And this three day Isaan Explorer tour is a great way to see more of the country and makes a great add on to any longer stay. You will be picked up at your hotel in Bangkok and driven north through beautiful countryside and stunning landscapes for an adventure which ends across the border in Laos.
A morning pick up from your hotel then it's off to the rural province of Prachinburi. There you reach the southern entrance of the Khao Yai National Park, one of the most important in South- East Asia. Stop at the beautiful waterfalls at Heu Narok during a forest walk then visit of the park headquarters, where you can see the results of scientific studies conducted on various rare species of animals that are now in danger of extinction. Leave the park from the north, along the way admiring the beautiful mountain landscape, then continue to the capital of Korat (Nakhorn Ratchasima), the main town in Isaan with its three million inhabitants making it the second largest in Thailand after Bangkok. Dinner and overnight in Korat.
After breakfast leave to discover the wonders of the Khmer Empire at Prasart-Hin Phimai, today a small town but in the era of the Khmer an important principality directly connected to Cambodia's legendary Angkor. Then follow the ancient Dharmasala Route descending towards the south-east to the magnificent Phanom Rung temple, which has some of the finest carvings in bas-relief that have made it famous. Then visit Prasat Muang Tam, another splendid jewel of Khmer art. After lunch drive to the big city of Ubon Ratchathani in North-East Thailand, making more visits to places of historical and architectural interest on the way. In the late afternoon arrive at your hotel in Ubon Ratchathani where dinner is waiting.
An exciting final day today on the mighty Mekong River, which divides Thailand from Laos. First stop at the village of Ban Sai Khawn and see local craftsmen at work. Then continue to Khongjiam, the point where two streams of clear water form a spectacular intersection of colours. Then take a river cruise to visit a sleepy Laotian village and meet the people. After lunch tour the National Park Pha taem, and see the bizarre rock formations of Sao Chaliang, then reach the top of Lan Hin Taek that ends with a cliff overlooking the forest. At the visitor centre here you get stunning views over Laos. Explore the magnificent park before being taken back to your hotel in Ubon Ratchani or the airport where your tour ends.
