The group of Portuguese sailors, said to be the first Westerners to lay eyes on the island, described Taiwan as Llha Formose - which means Beautiful Island. And on this imaginative five day tour you will get to appreciate just why it makes such an impression on visitors. With the lush mountains of Wulai, pulsating cities like the capital Taipei, the stunning basalt cliffs of Penghu, great hiking in Taroko Gorge and some of the world’s best hot springs, Taiwan cuts a figure as one of the most diverse destinations in Asia. Within the borders of this small, sweet-potato-shaped island, barely the size of many American states, lies a world of contrasts and a mix of cultural influences you’re not likely to find anywhere else in the world.
Your tour begins when you are picked up by an English speaking driver and guide in Taipei for the journey to Sun Moon Lake. On the way you stop at Sanyi, a woodcarving village, and can see the craftsmen at work. Before lunch you arrive at the town of Lukang where you have time to walk around the market and old streets and see the Ding Historic Mansion. Continue to Sun Moon Lake, driving along the lake and visiting Wen Wu Temple which has beautiful views.

This morning after breakfast you will be driven to the biggest monastery in Taiwan, Foguanshan Monastery. Visit the Main Shrine, the enlightening Buddhist Museum and Great Buddha Land. If time allows, visit the Buddha Memorial Center. Clients can choose to have a light vegetarian lunch (at own expense) at the monastery. Later carry on to Taitung before arriving at Chihpen in the late afternoon. After checking in to your hotel, relax and enjoy the natural hot springs for the remainder of the day.

This is the final day of the tour but there are still some adventures to be head on the way back to Taipei.
