This is the ultimate expedition voyage – 17 leisurely days starting in vibrant Singapore and ending in Darwin, gateway to northern Australia. In between you sample the diversity of the Indonesian archipelago with excursions to Way Kambas National Park, the historic caldera of Anak Krakatua, and the rarely visited Karimunjawa National Park. You experience a bustling Indonesian town – Surabaya – and disembark on two very different islands, black volcanic Lombok and windswept Sumba. You can also enjoy some great snorkelling and see the world's only dragons.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Singapore

You board Coral Expeditions I, a twin-hulled boutique catamaran, in Singapore, with plenty of time to explore this famous destination before setting sail at 4pm. The city's Botanical Gardens are a delight, the shopping is second to none, and you can spend some time on the nearby fun island of Sentosa. Then as you leave admire the skyline vista from the deck with a captain's welcome cocktail in hand.

Day 2: Pulau Penuba

Your first port of call on this magnificent cruise is Pulau Penuba on the Indonesian strait between Pulau Lingga and Pulau Singalap. There are tours that can be booked on board at every destination and today you can go ashore and visit a local village, see a traditional martial arts display as well as stopping at an opium house.

Day 3: Pulau Belitung

Today the Coral Expedition docks at Pulau Belitung, an island in the Java Sea on the east coast of Sumatra. The island is known for its pepper and tin and was a possession of the United Kingdom until 1812. Here you can enjoy a welcome ceremony at Rainbow Beach, go rock hopping among painted boulders and explore the undeveloped beach front area.

Day 4: Way Kambas National Park

A fascinating day today when you have the chance to go exploring in Way Kambas National Park. This is one of the oldest reserves in Indonesia and it is here that you can spot endangered Sumatran elephants in the wild on a tour with a park ranger and see lots of animals and bird life by taking a river cruise.

Day 5: Anak Krakatua

Relax on board today as the Coral Expedition cruises the Sunda Strait that separates Sumatra and Java. You should see plenty of marine life and colourful fish in this area and you have time to travel ashore and walk up Anak Krakatua, a young but active volcano, from which the views are spectacular.

Day 6: Thousand Islands

A great day to get into the water when your luxurious catamaran cruises around the picturesque Thousand Islands. This is another area famous for its marine life which you can see up close by taking the opportunity to go diving or snorkelling in the clear waters.

Day 7: At Sea

The first of your full days at sea on the cruise so relax and get to know all that this superb catamaran has to offer. The Coral Expedition is designed for maximum stability and guest comfort. Accommodating just 50 guests, the vessel offers most of the facilities of a larger ship, while retaining the atmosphere of a private yacht.

Day 8: Karimunjawa

After your first full sea day the Coral Expedition arrives at Karimunjawa, a beautiful unspoilt archipelago with pristine beaches and colourful coral reefs. There are a whole host of water activities on offer here but if you prefer to stay on dry land you can take a hike through the low hills and lush forests.

Day 9: Surabaya

Today you have the chance to explore Old Surabaya and learn all about its fascinating colonial past. Stroll through the alleyways of Kampung Arab, the largest Arab district in Indonesia, and experience the melting pot of races in the Pabean Market. You can also visit Chinatown and watch the Potehi Puppets at the temple.

Day 10: Lombok

Today you make landfall on the north shore of Lombok where you can take local transport to the foothills of Mt Rinjani, the highest peak in the area. Then walk through the jungle to the spectacular Sendang Gile Waterfall looking out for monkeys and colourful birds along the way. Later as the sun sets you sail towards Sumbawa Island.

Day 11: Pulau Moyo

Today you can take part in water activities in and over beautiful untouched coral reefs. Swim and snorkel with white tip reef sharks and dive to watch blue spotted stingrays. On land you can go for a walk through the rain forest seeing lots of creatures from loggerhead turtles to deer. Visit a traditional village and see the remains of an extinct megalithic culture.

Day 12: Komodo Island

One of the highlights of the cruise today when you arrive at Kamodo Island, home to the awesome Komodo Dragons. Take a walk in the UNESCO World Heritage Komodo National Park on a guided tour led by rangers to see the world's largest lizards before relaxing on Pink Beach. Later visit the Atlas Pearl Farm and taste oyster sashimi.

Day 13: Sumba

When your catamaran arrives at Sumba you can visit a traditional village with its unique 'peaked' roof architecture and meet the locals and learn about marapu, their religious teachings. Today you can also see the megalithic burial sites in the area and watch the famous Ikat weavers in action.

Day 14: Kelimutu

Today you land on Flores where you are taken on a stunning scenic drive to the Kelemutu volcano. Have you camera ready because the views from the top are breathtaking and along the way you can get lots of good pictures of the tri-coloured lakes.

Day 15: Pulau Alor

You have the chance to enjoy some of Nusa Tenggara's best snorkelling and diving today over world class coral sea gardens. You can also learn about indigenous tribal groups renowned for their Moko drum culture when visiting a traditional village half way up a mountainside.

Day 16: At Sea

Before enjoying most of today relaxing at sea as your catamaran heads for Darwin in north Australia, you can go ashore at Pulau Kisar - your final Indonesian port of call. Here you will be welcomed by traditional dancers and have time to explore and shop for souvenirs.

Day 17: At Sea

The last of your full days at sea on the cruise so make the most of it. Relax on deck and soak up the sun with a cocktail and good book, attend a lecture, or take part in one of the many organised activities that make sure there is never a dull day on board the Coral Expedition. Tonight join the captain and crew for farewell drinks.

Day 18: Arrive Darwin

Today you wonderful cruise around the Indonesian islands comes to an end when the Coral Expedition arrives at Darwin in northern Australia. Say farewell to new found friends and possibly stay on and enjoy a holiday Down Under before heading to the airport and beginning your journey back home.
