Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Mandalay

After a morning domestic flight from the capital city Rangoon, now known as Yangon, you will arrive in Mandalay. You will be met at the airport and after a short trip to see the fantastic panoramic views over the river will be taken to board the Road To Mandalay which is berthed on the Ayeyarwady River at Shwe Kyet Yet. After lunch, enjoy a guided tour of the key sights of Mandalay regarded as the centre of Burmese culture and Buddhist learning. Return to your luxurious ship for the first of three memorable dinners followed by local entertainment in the evening.

Day 2: Sagaing

Join an early morning walking tour of Shwe Kyet Yet village which will include alms-giving to the monks by the ship's crew. Enjoy breakfast while the ship sails down to the ancient capital of Ava. Disembark for a tour by traditional horse and cart including a visit to an ancient teak monastic school and the ruins of King Bagyidaw's palace. The rest of the day is spent relaxing on board and observing the local river life from the top deck. An on-board guide lectures on local places and customs as you cruise along. Tonight there is a casual cocktail party before dinner

Day 3: Bagan

The ship arrives at Bagan where more than 2,000 temples and pagodas are scattered on an awe-inspiring plain beside the river. A guided orientation tour introduces you to the most important temples. After lunch you have the opportunity to rejoin the guide and visit the inside of some of the more significant pagodas. Alternatively, you can hire a bicycle or horse-drawn cart and explore this fascinating area on your own. Late afternoon your guide takes you to watch the breathtaking vista of the sun setting over the plain. Dinner and local entertainment on board.

Day 4: Bagan to Rangoon

Today your wonderful river cruise comes to an end. After an early breakfast say goodbye to new found friends before you leave the ship and are taken to Bagan airport for your flight back to Yangon. Here you can extend your holiday, catch an onward flight, or begin your journey home. This luxurious cruise on board the Road To Mandalay makes a great add on to any holiday in Burma and is a perfect way to explore this colourful and mystical country.
