These days, no trip to China is complete without a visit to see the amazing Terracotta Warriors. And on this two day stopover in Xian you will have plenty of time to discover one of the wonders of the modern world as well as exploring the intriguing city itself. Located on the Guanzhong Plain in central China, Xian is one of the oldest cities in the country with a history that dates back over 3,000 years. It was the capital of 13 dynasties which first unified China as well as the Tang Dynasty, often considered to be China's Golden Age.
On arrival in Xian you will be met by one of our tour representatives and taken to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch. Then it's off for a memorable time with the Terracotta Warriors, one of the world's great archaeological finds, which were discovered by chance in 1974 by a group of peasants digging a well on the outskirts of the city. These life size sculptures of soldiers, chariots and horses are housed in giant pits and the viewing area and museum is superb. This impressive site ranks alongside the Great Wall and Forbidden City as a tourist attraction. After the tour you will be taken back to your hotel in Xian.
Another treat today when you are picked up after breakfast and taken for a tour of the mighty city walls. First built in the 2nd century BC, this huge wall is one of the oldest and best preserved in China. The existing wall dates back from the Ming Dynasty and was completed in 1370 and you can walk or cycle around its 10 mile parapet and see the stunning bell tower. Later you will be picked up and driven back to the airport to continue your holiday in China having experienced two of the country's most memorable sights.
