This amazing 12 day tour combines a great safari adventure with a relaxing sunshine beach holiday. You begin by exploring the spectacular Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania where you can expect to see an array of wildlife in their natural surroundings. Then after the excitement of lots of game drives its off to the gorgeous east coast of exotic Zanzibar to spend six days beside one of the world's most beautiful beaches.
Your adventure begins this morning in the Tanzania capital Dar es Salaam where you are picked up from your hotel and taken to the airport for your flight to Selous. On arrival you are met and driven to the safari camp. Once at the camp you will have a couple of hours to relax and settle in before the first of many safaris. See some of the animals as the sun goes down then return for dinner under the stars.
You'll spend today exploring the vast wilderness of Selous, one of the world's largest faunal reserves and a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its diverse wildlife. The huge reserve covers more than 21,000 square miles, and is home to large numbers of crocodiles, cape buffalo, elephants, cheetahs, hippos and African wild dogs. Game drives in the early morning and evening and time to relax in between.
Today you'll have another full day in this fantastic location, exploring the varied terrain, which includes areas of grassland, Acacia savanna, wetlands and Miombo woodlands. It's every safari-goers aim to see the Big Five - lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant - and today you could be lucky to see some or all of them. Again there will be time to relax at the camp between game drives and soak up the African sun.
Today you have a final opportunity to view Selous' spectacular wildlife in this stunning natural habitat before your journey to Zanzibar tomorrow, so make the very most of it. More game drives in the early morning and the evening when the animals are most active with rests between at the safari camp. Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner under the stars and swap stories with your fellow game watchers.
This morning you may have time for a final safari before saying goodbye to Selous and flying back to Dar es Salaam, where you'll change planes for your flight to Zanzibar. Here you'll be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel for your four-night luxurious beach stay. After all the excitement of seeing all the wild animals in their natural surroundings this is a great time to unwind and soak up the tropical sun.
Enjoy your first full day of blissful relaxation on Zanzibar's East Coast beaches. This is the quietest and most untouched part of the island, and the beaches here are widely considered to be among the world's best. Today you may decide to do nothing at all, but if you are still feeling active there are a whole host of activities that can be booked through your hotel including great water sports.
Another day to relax and soak up the sun beside the beautiful Indian Ocean. If you're in the mood for something a little more energetic, head to the local dive centre and take a trip out to view the turtles, dolphins, rays and barracudas which make these crystal-clear waters their home. Having seen all the animals on safari, now may be a good time to catch up with the exotic marine life.
Another day of beach side bliss on the East Coast of Zanzibar, which is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. On its main island, Unguja, is Stone Town, a historic trade centre with Swahili and Islamic influences. Its winding lanes present minarets, carved doorways and 19th-century landmarks such as the House of Wonders, a former sultan’s palace, all of which are worth visiting.
Relax by the Indian Ocean on one of the local beaches, read a good book and top up that tan. It can be wonderful doing nothing in this tropical paradise, but if you get itchy feet on the East Coast of the island you can always take some time out and head up to the northern villages of Nungwi and Kendwa which also have wide beaches lined with hotels.
Another day on the glorious beaches of Zanzibar. The marine life in the area is fantastic and you can go scuba diving or snorkelling in the crystal clear waters with experienced guides at any time during your stay. Take out a sail boat, try sail and paddle boarding, and have fun sampling the local cuisine at some of the beach-side cafes and restaurants.
Today's the final full day of your beach stay so make the most of it. You may like to spend the whole day on the beach, or perhaps take a leisurely cruise around the mangroves in a traditional Swahili dhow to see some of the diverse wildlife and spectacular scenery. Tonight say farewell to new found friends and enjoy a final dinner on Zanzibar.
Your safari adventure and relaxing beach holiday comes to an end today when you check out of your hotel and are driven to the airport to catch your flight back to Dar es Salaam. Here you can stay on for a few days and explore Tanzania's fascinating capital city, catch an onward flight and continue your African adventure, or begin your journey home.
