Wildlife and warriors . . . you get both of these and much on this great tour of South Africa. Over an exciting week you will go on scenic drives, have the opportunity to view all the big game on safari in the famous Kruger National Park, visit an authentic Zulu homestead and explore the fascinating kingdom of Swaziland. Your tour starts on the coast in Durban and ends in Johannesburg and makes a great add on to any holiday in the Rainbow Nation.
On arrival at Durban International Airport, you will be met by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel which is located on the Gold Mile - Durban's distinctive beach front. In the afternoon you will be picked up from your hotel for a city tour. Durban is a place where east meets west - a city beneath which beats the pulse of Africa. On the tour you will discover the cultural and historical contrasts of the city. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Leave Durban and travel up the Elephant Coast of KwaZulu Natal to St Lucia, located at the southern extremity of a wetland park. Here take a boat trip with the chance to view crocodiles, hippo and numerous bird species. Arrive at your hotel in the afternoon, in time for a scenic drive up the Ubombo Mountains, with views over Lake Jozini. At the summit as the sun sets, stop for sundowners. The drive will be combined with a visit to a Zulu homestead for a glimpse into Zulu life in today's world. Return to the hotel for dinner on the terrace.
In the morning you travel to the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve for a full day of game viewing. This reserve covers a huge area and it was here that the white rhino was saved from extinction. A good chance today of seeing some or all of the Big Five - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Overnight and dinner at the your hotel, the delightful Ghost Mountain Inn.
Today you journey to the Royal Kingdom of Swaziland. This tiny mountainous kingdom is filled with bygone African traditions and culture and offers beautiful scenery and attractions such as game reserves and art and craft outlets. Travel via Big Bend and visit the Swazi Candle Factory. After spending some time at the Mbabane craft markets arrive at your hotel located in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley.
After breakfast this morning your tour continues through Swaziland. Along the way you will stop at the Ngwenya Glass Works to see master craftsmen create beautiful sculptures and artwork from molten glass. At the Jeppe's Reef border, enjoy a showcase of the traditional Swazi culture followed by lunch at the Matsamo Cultural Village. Then continue to your hotel for late afternoon arrival followed by dinner.
Early this morning you will depart on an open vehicle safari through the Kruger National Park. The world-renowned Kruger offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. At nearly two million hectares, the reserve is the flagship of South African National Parks and is home to an impressive number of flora and fauna. Return to your hotel in the afternoon and spend the remainder of the day at leisure. You will have the option to return to the Kruger for a memorable evening safari.
Travel to Johannesburg via the magnificent Panorama Route. The most spectacular stretch of this route is the Blyde River Canyon. From many well-positioned vantage points you get a view of the 25 mile long gorge, which starts at Bourke's Luck Potholes and ends at the Three Rondavels. Also stop at God's Window and the Mac Mac Falls. The tour ends in the early evening when you are taken to the airport for your onward flight or journey home.
