The Knickerbocker Hotel

The Knickerbocker Hotel 5 Star

from £222 per room night

The historic Knickerbocker hotel was first opened in 1906 by John Jacob Astor, and became renowned for its lavish parties and nightlife, glamorous Beaux Arts style and glittering guests. Prohibition put paid to all that and in 1921 the hotel was converted into offices, although it was designated as a New York City Landmark in 1988. Now reopened as a premier luxury lifestyle hotel, set at the crossroads of 42nd Street and Broadway, its location in the heart of Manhattan overlooking Times Square and Bryant Park, makes it the perfect holiday destination for the 21st century.

The Knickerbocker has 350 guestrooms including 27 suites and four Tribute Suites, – the Caruso, Cohan, Martini and Parrish – all decorated in a sleek contemporary style with lofty 12-foot ceilings, six-foot windows, bespoke furnishings, oak wood finishes, richly textured fabrics and intelligent lighting. There is a fittingly historic ambience in the muted tones of the décor, with its art deco shapes and beautifully crafted wooden furniture. There is nothing old-fashioned about the amenities however, with Stearns & Foster Euro-top beds, Sferras 300-count Egyptian cotton sheets, Ploh goosedown pillows and feather beds, Samsung 55inch flatscreen smart TV, one-touch table controls for lighting and temperature, Wi-Fi, dual-line telephone with data port, private electronic safe, and a fully stocked Club bar. Bathrooms are state-of-the-art sumptuous with marble sinks, walk-in rain shower enclosed in brushed glass, Ted Gibson bath amenities, and in-room cosmetics menu, and Turkish Towel ba

Ted Gibson, hair and beauty stylist to the stars, is available through the hotel for on-site appointments, while British designer Jo Sampson brings her lifestyle expertise to The Knickerbocker via the Waterford Crystal Lounge at St Cloud, a luxurious space designed with Jo Sampson custom furniture and Waterford bar and stemware. Former New York Knicks basketball star Larry Johnson is the on-site fitness instructor at the Knickerbocker, and will oversee your cardio and strength training, yoga or jogging programme. And if smoking is your thing, Joel Sherman, tobacco expert and connoisseur, provides world-class cigars to be enjoyed in a special ultra-luxe outdoor room with fabulous views of the city. There is a children’s programme of events to keep the younger guests happy, and the hotel has a team of experts to help plan your special events in one of its indulgent

Your culinary experience at the Knickerbocker is in the capable hands of master chef Charlie Palmer, who has created a market-driven Progressive American menu of vibrant flavours served at the Charlie Palmer at the Knick restaurant, from breakfast through lunch and dinner. The newly opened St Cloud offers rooftop cocktails and a small plates menu with indoor and outdoor seating, great views, sophisticated entertainment and speak-easy fun, from 5pm. For really good coffee and pastries, Jakes @ The Knick is located in Times Square, and provides the perfect grab n go food in a stylish setting.
