On this four day cruise on the Road to Mandalay river boat, you will see some of the 4,000 sacred stupas scattered across the plains of Bagan, visit the markets and meet the people. Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Bagan

Your adventure begins in the capital city of Yangon, formerly Rangoon, when you catch the short flight to Bagan. On arrival, transfer to the Road To Mandalay berthed on the Ayeyarwady River. At Bagan more than 2,000 temples and pagodas are scattered over an awe-inspiring plain beside the river. After lunch, join your guide and visit the inside of some of the more significant pagodas and later you will be taken to watch the sun setting over a field of glowing pagodas. Dinner and local entertainment on board.

Day 2: Cruise

After breakfast join your guide to explore some of Bagan's local markets selling wood carvings, fabrics, longyis and rattan goods and see Burma's famous lacquerware being made. Alternatively, you can hire a bicycle or horse-drawn cart and explore this enchanting area on your own. Mid-morning the Road To Mandalay begins its cruise north towards Mandalay. Relax on the top deck and watch the fascinating river life glide by and listen to lectures on local places and customs. The ship moors mid-river for the evening and there's a casual cocktail party followed by dinner.

Day 3: Cruise

Today the Road to Mandalay arrives at the village of Shwe Kyet Yet after lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the key sights of Mandalay, which is rightly regarded as the centre of Burmese culture and Buddhist learning. Then return to your river boat stopping on the way to admire a stunning sunset over the river. Tonight enjoy another memorable dinner on board after which you will be treated to a show by local entertainers.

Day 4: Cruise

After breakfast, cruise to Mingun to visit the most important sights such as the pretty Hsinbyume Pagoda and see the world's largest uncracked bell. Return by ferry for a late lunch and in the afternoon visit the Sagaing Hills, considered to be the living centre of the Buddhist faith in Burma. Sagaing is also famous for its silver and silversmiths who still work in much the same way as their ancestors did. Dinner and local entertainment back on board for your final night of the cruise.

Day 5: Arrive Mandalay

After an early breakfast you say farewell to new found friends and leave the Road to Mandalay and are driven to the airport for your flight back to Rangoon where the tour comes to an end. This wonderful cruise on the Ayeyarwady River is a great way to get a feel for Burma and can be added on to any longer stay in this mysterious and colourful country.
