Oman is a country that offers the visitor diversity like no other. From its burgeoning capital city Muscat to the untouched coastline, mountains, deserts and wadis . . . it has something for everyone. And on this fascinating seven day tour, which begins and ends in Muscat, you will get to experience its striking cultural landmarks and see so many of the stunning sights. Oman is a a gem of a holiday destination which is full of wonderful surprises. This Sultanate covers the 1,000-mile-long coastal plain at the southeast tip of the Arabian Peninsula, lying on the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman and is bordered by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

Day 1
Arrival at Muscat

On arrival at Muscat you will be met at the international airport by one of our tour representatives and driven to your hotel in the city. The rest of the day and evening is free for you to get to know this fascinating city by exploring on your own. If you would prefer you can simply relax at your hotel after the flight and enjoy a cooling swim before going for a walk to a nearby restaurant to try the local cuisine.

Day 2
Muscat By Night City Tour

Enjoy a full day at leisure in the city before you are picked up at your hotel at 4pm for a Muscat City Tour. First drive to the Grand Mosque which is beautiful by night, as it is illuminated from all sides. Then drive to the Corniche which is near the Muttrah souk where you can barter for Omani souvenirs like Frankincense, beautiful silver handicrafts and „Pashmina shawls. Next stop is the Bait Al Zubair Museum in the old city of Muscat. From here you visit the Sultan?s Palace which is surrounded by two forts.

Day 3
Muscat – Grand Mosque - Nakhl – Rustaq – Al Thowar

Today you see the Grand Mosque from the inside. The main chandelier is made of Swarovski crystal and the carpet adorning the large prayer hall is pure Persian silk. From here you are driven to Barka to visit the fish market and see how the locals barter for fresh fish. Then visit Rustaq Fort which is famous for its hot water springs, which are said to have medicinal value. The fort itself is known for its beautiful ornate gates. After a picnic lunch next stop is Nakhl which has the highest fort in Oman, standing proudly on top of a hill. Then continue to the Al Thowara Oasis where you can see the source of the natural springs. Overnight back in Muscat.

Day 4
Muscat – Amouage Factory – Bahla – Jabreen - Nizwa

Today you leave Muscat and head to the Nizwa region on the way stopping at the Amouage factory, which is a niche luxury fragrance house. Then visit Jabreen castle, the finest of Oman?s castles which was built during the late 17th century and displays beautiful ceiling paintings and intricate wood carvings. Stop at Bahla fort for a picnic lunch then visit the Nizwa market and fort. Spend some time in this traditional city and stroll through the souq looking for bargains and souvenirs. Overnight Nizwa.

Day 5
Nizwa – Wadi Bani Kahlid – Wahiba Sands

After breakfast on the drive to Wahiba Sands you will see old mud houses and a deserted souq. Continue to Wadi Bani Khalid, with its clear deep blue waters, where the shades of the palm trees are inviting for a siesta before a picnic lunch. The setting in the desert wilderness emphasises the beauty of the virgin dunes surrounding the camp at Wahiba Sands - a vast mass of undulating red and white dunes stretching into the distance. Enjoy an exhilarating round of 'dune bashing' in a 4x4 vehicle seeing the nomads and the Bedouins and stop to visit a Bedouin home and have the chance to ride a camel. Overnight in a desert camp where you have a traditional Arabic meal.

Day 6
Wahiba – Sur - Coastal Road – Muscat

After breakfast at the camp begin your journey back to Muscat. In Sur visit the fishermen's harbour and the Dhow building yard. Continue via Qalhat where Bibi Miriam?s tomb is located then stop at Wadi Shab with its beautiful clear oasis pools. After seeing the wadi relax on white beaches of Finns where a picnic lunch is served. Also see the Bimah Sinkhole, a natural hole in the round created by a collapsing mountain which is filled with blue-green sea water. Finally pass through the village of Quriyat, guarded by its 18th century fort and return to Muscat.

Day 7
Departure

Today you may have some time to see more sights in this fascinating capital city and go to one of the many markets for some last minute souvenir shopping before one of our tour representatives picks you up at your hotel and drives you to the airport to catch your flight back home. This short tour makes a great add on to any holiday in Oman and will leave you with lots of happy memories.

Curtis did everything right as usual - all perfect BUT hotel should have let you and us know beforehand that there was a massive concert very close by on Friday night which kept us awake until 3 am. Bit of a shock but still loved Shangri La (when the music stopped..)
