Overview
Beautiful Melbourne, often voted the world's most livable city, is a must destination when travelling Down Under. There are so many sights to see and lots to keep you entertained in the city, which is also the gateway to the amazing Great Ocean Road. But while visiting here it is well worth taking this short self-drive tour which packs in so many fascinating experiences and will be the icing on the cake of your stay in this wonderful part of Australia.
Day 1
Melbourne
Leave Melbourne along the Eastern Freeway and drive out to the Yarra Valley, home to Victoria’s earliest vineyards and recognised as one of the world’s great wine growing regions. Numerous wineries offer cellar door tastings and sales, and have restaurants serving gourmet food and fine local produce. Then get close to wildlife at Healesville Sanctuary, home to dingos, kangaroos, wombats and the elusive platypus. Then travel on to Marysville, through the spectacular Black Spur for an overnight stay.

Day 2
Yarra Valley to Phillip Island
This morning travel south east to San Remo in time for the daily feeding of the Pelicans at noon, before heading over the bridge to Phillip Island, which is home to the famous Little Penguins. The internationally renowned Penguin Parade in the evening is not to be missed. There’s something very heart-warming about sitting and watching these cute creatures splash out of the sea every evening and waddle faithfully off to their sand burrows.

Day 3
Phillip Island
Today is free for you to relax and enjoy Phillip Island. Here you can spend some time with the wildlife at the Koala Conservation Centre or take a cruise out to sea to watch the fur seals in their natural habitat. If you have a sweet tooth, then a stop at Phillip Island Chocolate Factory is a must and you can also enjoy an entertaining visit to Amaze ‘N Things world of magic or tiny Churchill Island. Spend another night on the island possibly making another trip to see the Little Penguins.

Day 4
Phillip Island to Mornington Peninsula
Before leaving you may want to take a helicopter flight around Phillip Island then head west around the bay along the Bass Highway and South Gipsland Highway to the heart of the Mornington Peninsula. Heading inland you find lots of boutique wineries and the Moonlit Sanctuary where you can meet lots of the country's unique wildlife. Take the afternoon to explore all that the Mornington Peninsula has to offer and finish your day twilight bathing at Peninsula Hot Springs, Victoria’s first natural hot springs in a tranquil bushland setting.

Day 5
Mornington Peninsula to Queenscliff
Start your day in stylish Sorrento and Portsea which are filled with antique shops, galleries, cafes and numerous walking trails along the coastline. Then travel to the other side of Port Phillip Bay on the Sorrento Queenscliff Ferry. Spot dolphins, clifftop mansions and incredible scenery on the 45 minute crossing to historic Queenscliff on the Bellarine. Here you can step back in time to discover classic Queenscliff, an historic seaside village with glorious Victorian buildings, cafes, art studios and delightful harbour-side dining.

Day 6
Queenscliff to Melbourne
Leave Queenscliff and make the return journey north to Melbourne along the Princes Freeway and the west side suburbs. Prepare for a few surprises as you travel through Geelong by the sea. Once an industrial city which served the rich surrounding farm regions, Geelong has shrugged off its past to reveal reinvented warehouses and factories that are now home to a hip new culture of outstanding regional restaurants, cool cafes and bars, craft breweries, and art galleries. Tomorrow return your hire car at the end of a great trip.
