Tarangire & Ngorongoro Safari

Description

No trip to Africa is complete without experiencing at least one safari . . . and they don't come much better than this. Your four day adventure in East Africa's Tarangire and Ngorongoro begins in Arusha, a city in Tanzania, located at the base of volcanic Mt. Meru. It's a gateway to safari destinations and to Africa's highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, lying some 80 miles northeast. To the west lies the Serengeti National Park, home to wildlife including lions, rhinoceros, giraffes and leopards. Annual migrations feature huge herds of wildebeests crossing its plains.

Day 1
Arusha to Tarangire

You leave Arusha early in the afternoon for the drive to Tarangire National Park. From the park’s gate, you continue the journey to the lodge viewing lots of game along the way. Deriving its name from the Tarangire River which winds its way through the park, Tarangire is a complex mixture of grasslands, flood plains and scenic river, and is home to thousands of baobab trees. You arrive at Lake Burenge Tented Camp in time for a memorable dinner under the stars.

Day 2
Tarangire to Ngorongoro

Rise early this morning for a game drive in Tarangire National Park. This is a good time to see lots of animals which are active before the heat of the day sets in. Return to the camp for lunch then leave Tarangire and travel to Karatu arriving late afternoon at either the Ngorongoro Farm House or Tloma Lodge, where you stay tonight. Relax after the journey then get ready to take part in a choice of game drives and evening activities before returning after sunset for another dinner under the stars.

Day 3
Ngorongoro to Arusha

A highlight awaits this morning as you leave your lodge with a picnic lunch to explore what is known as the world’s largest wildlife zoo. After breakfast, you descend through the mists 2,000 feet into the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact volcanic caldera on the planet. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is made up of distinct areas ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and sandy dunes and makes for an awesome wildlife experience. Leave in the late afternoon and return to Arusha for dinner and overnight.

Day 4
Depart Arusha

Your short but action packed safari trip comes to an end today and you are in a great spot to do some more exploring. Either stay on in Arusha or take one of a number of trips out into the surrounding areas for more wildlife viewing with every chance of seeing some or all of the Big Five - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Alternatively you can head to the airport and fly to another region of Africa or begin your journey back home taking with you lots of great memories.
