Part of Fiji’s idyllic Yasawa archipelago, Viwa Island is a real Robinson Crusoe hideaway, a lush 20 square mile atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, reached only by ferry or seaplane. As an adults-only destination, here you can retreat from the world into a paradise of clear turquoise waters, rich coral reefs, swaying palms and white sand.
The resort comprises just 11 traditional and ecofriendly Fijian beachfront bures or bungalows, sleeping a maximum of 28 guests, and designed to compliment and enhance the island’s stunning natural surroundings. There are eight Deluxe Beachfront Bures, which sleep two people in either king size or twin king beds, and three Deluxe Beachfront Bures, each sleeping up to four people in either two king sized beds, one king sized and two king sized twins or king singles. All the bures are crafted in traditional Fijian style, with thatched roofs, high ceilings and louvre shutters to let the cooling sea breeze in. All the bures have a comfortable sittingarea with sofas and a coffee table, and of course a large balcony overlooking the Pacific ocean. Mod cons include air con, ceiling fans, a fridge, room safe, and stea and coffee making facilities. Bathrooms open on to a small garden area, to allow natural light into the room, and feature separate showers and a vanity area with Pure Fiji toiletr
Viwa Island is surrounded by a wonderful coral reef, so this is one of the best diving spots in the Pacific Ocean, with its own PADI dive operation giving access to some of the best diving sites in the area. There’s also wonderful snorkeling opportunities, and you can swim straight off the beach out to the reef to see the colourful fish, sea creatures and coral. You can go game fishing (the chef will prepare your catch for dinner), kayaking, and play beach games such as petanque, and volley ball, or visit local traditional villages such as Naibalebale, which is right beside the resort. You can also take part in local cultural activities such as coconut husking and basket weaving. Or you can just lie on the beach and soak up the sun….
Fresh Pacific Rim cuisine featuring locally caught fish and seafood, organic fruit and vegetables, is cooked by the head chef Ware and served either indoors or outdoors on the Rai Ki Wasa Terrace, where you can also enjoy pre-dinner drinks and cocktails during the day.
