Sailors will appreciate a stay at Hotel J, which mixes a seafaring influence with a New England aesthetic. This blends in nicely with the location – on the waterfront at Nacka Strand, an inlet of Stockholm harbour. Even the name has a nautical theme: a J is a unit of measurement, as in J-Class yachts. But you don’t have to be of a sailing bent to enjoy a stay in this lovely, relaxing hotel. You can reach it in 10 minutes by car from Stockholm city centre or, if you want to arrive in shipshape fashion, it’s a 15-minute boat ride from Slussen and Nybrokajen.
The hotel can point you in the direction of Njuta Spa, just a five-minute walk away. Here you can enjoy a relaxing treatment in sight of the boats passing by. You can even arrange a special spa weekend through the hotel, which includes a treatment and access to the gym.
Guests can choose from different levels of rooms, including J Deluxe, J Seaview, J Newport Large and J Suites. There are 158 tastefully decorated rooms in total, all featuring good-quality linen from GANT, wood trim, LCD-TV, minibar and writing desk. Most of the rooms feature a private balcony and some have a sea view. The two-floor suites also provide a separate lounge with sofa, as well as wonderful panoramic views.
There are lots of varied activities in the immediate vicinity to keep you occupied, from shopping at Nacka Forum or Sickla Köpkvarter to visiting an art exhibition at Dieselverkstaden or Fotografiska or taking in the porcelain factory of Gustavsbergs Porslinsfabrik or the rococo estate of Svindersvik. You can also take a tour boat to nearby islands, such as the Fjäderholmarna, or stop off at the city centre, with its many museums, shopping districts, parks, restaurants and historical sites.
Restaurant J is located right on the edge of the water at Nacka marina, and the bayside views are stunning. The nautical New England-themed décor is tasteful – and you’ll find white wood panelling, oak furniture and brightly coloured fabrics. The first-class brasserie-style food majors, unsurprisingly, on seafood and has an American influence. Diners can eat inside or, on summer days, outside on the large terrace, and on weekdays a fine takeaway menu is available. August is the time for crayfish parties on the waterfront.
