An 18th-century Jesuit monastery turned luxury hotel, Son Brull sits in its own idyllic slice of the Majorcan countryside at the foothills of the Tramantura Mountains near the Formentor Peninsula. Combining a slice of authentic rural living with all the trappings of a 21st-century hotel and spa, it makes the ideal escape from everyday life close to the quiet village of Pollensa within easy reach of some of the island’s best beaches.
Assuming you’ve come here to relax the senses, then the Spa Son Brull will be your first port of call. Four treatments rooms, and two outdoor spaces are the setting for an exciting range of treatments. A sauna, hammam, Jacuzzi, indoor and outdoor pool mean you could easily spend a whole day here being pampered. Products are all-natural, coming from the island itself, and are the perfect foil to rituals inspired by the sea (think mineral scrubs) and local fauna (stone massages with soothing plant essences).
An ode to chic island living, Son Brull has superbly designed rooms, styled in a country meets contemporary fashion. Natural materials abound, from the oak beams to 1950s-style coffee tables. A neutral colour palette is easy on the eye, touching on everything from the fine linens on the large beds to the sofas and warming rugs. Each of the 23 bright and airy rooms differs from the next, and there are double and suites with their own private terrace too. All come with free wi-fi, TVs and luxury amenities.
A wander around the 40-acre organic farm is highly recommended, and the hotel’s natural surroundings include a 300-year-old olive grove and orange, lemon, almond and fig trees. They even make their own wine. Guided walks and cycle paths take you to idyllic hamlets and lovely beaches. Tennis, yoga and personal trainers are also part of the line-up, and so too are watersports in Pollensa bay. Helicopters (there’s a helipad) and hot air balloon rides can be arranged by staff.
Incredible food and drink is at the heart of this resort, and the farm-fresh ethos remains strong. At Restaurant 3/65, the cosy dining room or candlelit terrace with valley views play host to simply prepared dishes that let local flavours sing out. Try monkfish with squid-ink noodles, veal in red wine or suckling pig with pumpkin. A varied lunch menu with icons like paella and crisp salads join tapas and cocktails at casual affair Ubar.
