Set in the centre of Barcelona’s vibrant city, the Cotton House Hotel provides five-star historical accommodation, just 20 minutes from the airport and only 10 minutes from the train station, and from all of the city’s most famous sights, including Las Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter and the cathedral, as well as just 25 minutes from the beach.
Built on the site of the 10th-century, neoclassical former headquarters of the Cotton Textil Foundation, or Fundación Textil Algodonera, the refurbishment preserved some of the original elements of the building, including the imposing marble staircase, delicate parquet and boiserie embellished ceilings, floors and walls in some rooms, and a suspended spiral staircase built in 1957. Rooms are all named after fabrics, such as Panama, Madras, Taffeta, Egyptian Cotton and Ottoman, and their design is inspired by the cotton plant, and realised in white, lack and sepia tones. Of course the bed and bath linen is of the very highest quality, with 300-thread country Egyptian cotton sheets, the plushest towels and honeycomb bathrobes and slippers. Bath and body products are by Ortigia, made with natural products from the Mediterranean. All the rooms have high-speed Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee makers, iPod docking station, 42inch TV, and some of the rooms can offer a third bed for a child or extra
The Cotton House has a beautiful rooftop pool where you can relax and enjoy the panoramic views while topping up your tan. The huge terrace is accessed via the Batuar Bar and restaurant, so you can enjoy a drink or a meal outside. You can keep up your fitness regime at the gym, which also offers massages and treatments at the Mayan Spa, as well as a full beauty and grooming service, while the Library is a cool retreat for relaxing in, or holding business meetings. And if you can tear yourself away, all the sights and sounds, restaurants, cafes, boutiques of Barcelona beckon, and most of it is on the doorstep so you don’t have to go very far to enjoy it.
The Batuar restaurant – named after the machine that presses the cotton - and the fabulous cocktail bar is open from 7am until midnight, serving authentic tapas, delicious Mediterranean cuisine made with local market produce, and sublime cocktails. Try the Gossypium Coctail, made with gin, blue caraçao, lime and spices, or get stuck into the selecton of whiskies, vodkas, brandies, cognacs and tequilas… you have been warned.
