Set in an old house that was restored by a married couple of architects from Milan who decided they wanted to adopt the slow living lifestyle, Talia is actually a collection of
small houses built in local stone and surrounded by a beautiful garden. Inspired authentic Sicilian and traditional Arab houses in a medina, the 10 charming rooms and suites are set on different levels with access to the and from the main garden, and with their own balcony or terrace, all with have a panoramic view of the historical centre. All the rooms are individually designed and decorated, but share a similar Sicilian aesthetic, with simple lines and natural materials, stone and wood, and ceramic tiles. Some have a traditional bamboo ceiling and ceramic tile floor, while another has stone walls and terracotta floor, while the Talia suite is on two levels with a terrace and garden overlooking the cathedral, and an ancient black stone floor. Talia is the sort of place where you could easily spend the whole day on your terrace – take a book from the breakfast room and soak up the sun and the views, or take a gentle stroll in the gardens, with its meandering stone paths leading to tranquil seats under shady trees. When you feel like venturing a bit further, the hotel is happy to organise tours, to the cities of Modica, Ragusa, Ibia, Scili, Noto, Siracusa, to name a few, and to the nature reserves of Cava d’Ispica, the canyon of Cava Granda, and the beaches of Marina di Ragusa and Modica, and Sampieri. And of course, this is Siciliy, the home of Mount Etna – so don’t miss a trip up the highest active volcano in Europe.
