Discreetly one of the most exclusive small hotels in the West Indies, the Sandpiper is the perfect hideaway on the west coast of Barbados. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, it is one of only two family-owned luxury resorts on the island and is set on the white-sand beach of St James. Just a six-minute walk from Holetown, it is within easy access of many restaurants, bars and shops.
All rooms and suites at the Sandpiper are individually appointed and have wall safes, CD players, clock radios, fridges, toasters and hairdryers, while bathrooms feature a combination shower and tub. Stunning views of the gardens, pool or Caribbean Sea define the rooms and suites, with two Tree Top Suites cited as the resort's premier accommodation. These feature a large covered terrace, open sundeck area and pool, as well as a separate living room.
Located on a long white sandy bay with calm waters, the Sandpiper is the perfect place to enjoy swimming and water sports. Complementary windsurfing, snorkelling, waterskiing, kayaking, Hobie Cat and Sunfish sailing are on offer, while the mosaic-tiled swimming pool in the gardens is great for sunbathing. The resort has two tennis courts and a well-equipped gym, and guests have access to the golf courses at Sandy Lane and the Royal Westmoreland.
The restaurant at the Sandpiper is renowned as being one of the finest on the island and the cuisine rates very highly, having won numerous awards. It has a West Indian theme and offers eclectic menus that combine Caribbean and international influences and change daily. There is also a tastefully designed bar and lounge with a Ralph Lauren-inspired theme, as well as Harold's Bar, which has an informal setting right on the beach. Room service and children's meals are also available.
