General

Wildman Wilderness Lodge is situated in the Mary River Wetlands area halfway between Darwin and Kakadu National Park. This high-end safari lodge, owned by Indigenous Business Australia, makes a great base for exploring the Top End of the Northern Territories, an area famous for its rich indigenous culture and spectacular wildlife. A two-hour drive from Darwin along the Arnhem Highway – an adventure in itself – will get you there. Or you can arrive by light aircraft as the lodge has its own ‘bush’ airstrip.

Room Description

After a hard day exploring, guests can return to a warm welcome and some very inviting accommodation. There are 10 free-standing cabins (‘habitats’) and 15 safari tents – you’re in the heart of nature but with every home comfort. Habitats offer air-conditioning, luxury bedding and en suite bathrooms. Similarly stylish are the safari tents, which provide a 50m2 fan-cooled space with en suite bathroom.

Activities

A number of environment-conscious excursions are offered. Depending on the season, you might try out anything from fishing and a river cruise to a culture walk or airboat tour, giving you a change to get to know Australia’s ‘Top End’. Or you can arrange a safari into the heart of this sacred region, edged by billabongs and with many opportunities to see incredible indigenous rock art. The area is also teeming with wildlife, and there are countless species of birds to be spotted. You may even see a saltwater crocodile.

Dining

Wildman Restaurant looks out over the wetlands of Mary River National Park, particularly enchanting as the sun sets. Dishes are based on local, seasonal produce, and you can even have the chef prepare your catch if you’ve been lucky on one of the hotel’s ‘Catch and Cook’ fishing tours. There’s also a lounge bar where you can enjoy a drink as you pore over the day’s adventures.
