Set overlooking a busy waterhole in the heart of Hwange National Park, Little Makalolo is a small camp of just six traditional-style tents, connected to the main camp area, with pool and dining room, by teak walkways. With the chance to view an enormous range of wildlife, both on game drives and in the camp's log-pile hide, as well as luxurious facilities and a secluded, intimate atmosphere, it's a wonderful place to escape your cares and get back to nature.
There are just six comfortable tented chalets, all of them simply yet elegantly furnished, with wood and brass fittings and cosy rugs. Each has its own veranda, with views through a clearing towards the waterhole, while inside amenities include en-suite bathroom with indoor hot and cold shower, copper washbasins and a flush toilet, as well as an outdoor shower. There's also a safe, fan and writing table, with electricity for the lighting provided by solar panels.
Take a game drive in an open 4x4 vehicle – you can hope to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, cheetahs, leopards, spotted hyenas, giraffes and wildebeest, among many others, as well as over 400 species of birds. You could also take a walking safari with one of the experienced guides, or just head for the log-pile hide, set next to the camp's waterhole, from which you can watch the elephants as they come to drink. Don't miss the chance to spend the night at the Star Bed, set a 20-minute drive from the main camp on a raised platform overlooking Madison Pan, an unforgettable wilderness experience. Back at the camp, cool off in the plunge pool or just relax on the poolside deck.
Meals are served at a large communal table in the open-sided dining area, and there's also an outdoor firepit, around which you can enjoy morning coffee or evening sundowners.
