General

With the style and ambience of an old-world safari camp, Selous Serena is located beside a river in the Selous Game Reserve – a World Heritage Site and a true untouched wilderness in southeast Tanzania. It’s a remote area of the country – and the biggest game reserve in the whole of Africa – with grassy plains, lakes, rivers and forests teaming with bird and animal life.

Room Description

Accommodation at Selous Serena Camp is in 12 private thatched tents, each with their own decks from which to gaze at the savannah and the winding river, Victorian-style bathrooms, and sumptuous bedrooms with chandeliers, tub chairs and canopied beds.

Activities

From your private tent, you walk along wooden walkways to the central building that houses a bar, lounge and library as well as the dining room. Above the lodge is an infinity pool and daybeds, and there’s a central deck with fire pit that’s the place for a cocktail after a day spent on safari. Game highlights include lions, cheetahs, elephants and baboons, or try a boat safari, where you might spot hippos, crocodiles and more than 350 species of bird.

Dining

In the classic safari tradition, meals at Selous Serena Camp are served on fine china with crystal glassware and pristine linens. The open-sided dining room offers awe-inspiring views, or you can opt to enjoy a picnic lunch beside the river. You can also try a Bush Breakfast – an early-morning wake-up call followed by a game drive (as this is the best time to spot the Big Five) and breakfast on a scenic river sandback or island.
