Set amid 45,000 acres of the Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa, this stunning forest lodge is the perfect place for a safari adventure. It neighbours the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site, and is 30km from the sparkling white sand beaches of the Indian Ocean. There are regular flights to Richards Bay Airport, two hours away from the game reserve. From Durban International Airport, it’s a three-hour drive. With its private sitting and dining areas, fireplace, bar, viewing decks, bona, swimming pool and gallery, guests are ensured they have everything they need for an enjoyable stay.
Phinda Forest Lodge offers 16 spacious, hand-built glass suites with wooden floors. Decorated with local crafts, each of these eco-friendly structures has a personal bar and private veranda as well as en-suite bathroom with twin basins, a bath, separate shower, room fans, heating, mosquito protection and phones.
The lodge offers two game drives a day in open game-viewing vehicles. Nature walks offer an excellent bird-watching opportunity, for the chance to spot some 200 or more waterbirds as well as crocodiles and hippos. River boat cruises and canoeing trips on the Mzinene River are also available. For an extra cost, guests can enjoy excursions such as snorkelling, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, turtle spotting and horse riding. Culture lovers will enjoy visits to local communities to learn about the local Zulu culture, crafts, history as well as cultural visits.
Delicious pan-Afrian cuisine is served on the deck overlooking the game reserve’s grassy plains or in the candlelit boma, outdoor dining area. Or if you prefer a more romantic intimate experience, why not enjoy dinner on your own veranda, for a special occasion?
