Set within the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary in Mozambique in southern Africa, Dugong Beach Lodge is a relaxed haven overlooking a fine white-sand beach and the sparkling Indian Ocean. The wildlife sanctuary has protected status and encompasses a diverse range of landscapes, from wetlands and mangrove swamps to woodlands and savannah.
Accommodation at Dugong Beach Lodge includes 10 Beach Chalets and two Luxury Villas. The chalets are built on raised wooden decks right on the beach and all have en-suite bathrooms plus outdoor showers. Their traditionally built roofs of Jecka grass mean that they blend into the surrounding countryside. The villas have two bedrooms and private plunge pools.
You can hire fishing and snorkelling equipment as well as kayaks, or if you want to just relax, you can lounge by the hotel pool or hang out in the lounge, which has a TV and a DVD player. Excursions include island-hopping trips, ocean safaris, nature drives and cruises on traditional dhows.
The restaurant at Dugong Beach Lodge looks out to the hotel’s own jetty over the emerald waters of Vilanculos Bay, and serves traditional Portuguese dishes and the freshest seafood. You can also have a private dinner on the beach or on the secluded pavilion at the end of the jetty.
