This lovely 5-star garden hotel is located within the 18th-century walls of the Riad Ouarzazi. It’s right in the centre of the medina, close to the famous Djemaa el Fna square, and it takes just ten minutes by taxi to reach it from Marrakech-Menara Airport.
The hotel has a very fine spa, where you can have a range of treatments using Clarins products. There are seven treatment rooms, five hammams, a spa bath therapy room, a relaxation room, fitness room and an indoor pool. As a treat, arrange the full hammam ritual, which starts with a black soap rub and moves on to a ghassoul wrap.
Marrakech has a number of good courses – ask at the hotel.
Guests can choose from 72 elegant rooms and suites: from a medina or patio room to a junior, royal or ouarzazi suite. The décor is sleek, contemporary and tasteful, with traditional Moroccan touches throughout, such as arched doorways and intricate light fittings. All have wifi, cable TV and air-conditioning, and most open onto a patio area – some suites also have a private terrace with views of the minarets of Koutoubia. Larger rooms provide seating areas.
You can relax in the hotel’s fine gardens or cool down after a day’s hard sightseeing in one of the swimming pools. The city itself is a bustling and lively place from morning till night, and a visit to Djemaa el Fna square, with its snake charmers, story-tellers and Gnawa singers, is a must. You’re also right next to Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakech. Other attractions include Dar Si Said Museum and the Maison de la Photographie, Badii Palace and the Majorelle Gardens. You can also step out further by heading to the Atlas Mountains or taking a day trip to the beach at Essaouira.
Take your pick from the dining options available. Next to the pool, for instance, you can enjoy light bites at Snack Bar Imlil, there’s an Indian and Asian menu at Les Jardins de Bala on the terrace, or you can eat in the gardens at Le Relais de Paris. Come the evening, you can also dine at Koutoubia restaurant, serving fresh, local produce, or nearby Restaurant Marocain – which has fine Moroccan cuisine as well as music and dancing. For cocktails there’s Ouarzazi piano bar.
