Created in 1927, Governors’ Camp was created for the ultimate luxury in a tented camp, and was reserved almost exclusively for Kenya’s colonial governors. Nestling in the forest along the banks of the Mara River, the camp is teeming with bird life, hippo and crocodile, in the heart of the Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. Some of the 37 tents line the riverbank, some with uninterrupted views over the Mara River, some with views across the Masai Mara. Everything is under canvas but with all the mod cons of a luxury hotel. The tents are big and bright, with lots of natural light and all tents have a veranda, hot and cold running water, flushing WCs and en suite bathrooms.
All the Governors’ Camp properties are locate within the best of wildlife viewing areas, ad all the guides are highly trained enthusiastic experts who know the area of Masai Masai and have access to a fleet of custom built 4wd vehicles specifically designed for wildlife vieing in this terrain. As well as four-wheel drive safaris, there are hot air balloon safaris, Masai cultural visitis, Lake Victorial day trips, Great Wildebeest Migration, ornithology, …. And overnight trips to Mfanganano Island Victoria, a tranquil retreat from the modern life that creates a relaxing break in your safari. At all the camps you have the best opportunity to see wildlife in its own environment – from the resident family of warthogs at Little Governor’s Camp, and the hippos that munch by the waterside at Lolida House to the giant monitor lizads that sun themselves at Mfangagano Island Camp and the magnificent Silverback Gorillas at Sabayinyo Silverback Lodge, with Governors’ Camp you will see he most
