Angama Mara takes its name from the Swahili word for "suspended in mid-air", as this owner-run safari lodge is set high above Africa's Great Rift Valley, overlooking the stunning Maasai Mara. Accessed via its private airfield, it consists of two camps, each with just 15 luxurious tented suites, and with unsurpassed friendly service it's a perfect spot from which to explore the Mara.
You can treat yourself to a relaxing massage on your deck.
Accommodation is in comfortable and spacious tented suites, all with spectacular views from their floor-to-ceiling glass fronts, and with decks overhanging the Mara. Inside they have polished parquet floors, drinks cabinet, vanity with double basins, separate WC, writing desk, Wifi and a butler's lobby to which your morning tea and coffee are delivered. Interconnecting tents are perfect for families.
Of course you'll want to spend much of your time exploring the Mara. Head out at sunrise to view the lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalo, as well as over 570 recorded species of birds, take an unforgettable hot-air balloon trip or enjoy a cultural visit to a Maasai village. Back at the camp, you can work out in the fitness room, take a refreshing dip in the pool or just relax on your deck and watch the astonishing views below.
Angama Mara prides itself on its excellent, unfussy food, produced using the freshest local ingredients. The chefs also prepare delicious picnics and traditional afternoon teas.
