1 Salvador Historical City Tour
Salvador Historical City Tour

Salvador at its finest

Discover the essential sights of Salvador on a half day tour tracing the development of the city from its simple beginnings to the what is now - the third largest city in Brazil. After a hotel pick up you will be taken to the mouth of the immense bay and then via elegant tree-lined avenues and bustling city streets to the Pelourinho, a Unesco Heritage site and the largest complex of colonial architecture in South America.

Leave your vehicle at the Muncipal Square and take the towering Lacerda Elevator, with great views of the bay stretching out to the lower city, before strolling through the narrow, busy streets lined with buildings in pastel shades, taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city. Then visit the church of Sao Francisco with its exuberant gold-leafed Baroque interior and the Pelourinho square, the heart of the old town.

Schooner Cruise and Lunch

Schooner the better!

You are picked up at your hotel in Rio and taken to a comfortable schooner for a cruise to two of the 36 islands in this sparkling bay. This is a day of rest and relaxation offering great views of the city both on the outbound and homeward sailings. First stop is Frades (or Monk's) Island which is virtually uninhabited and home to the some of the best beaches in the bay.

Here you have time to swim in the warm inviting waters, or relax in the sun or the shade with a cold drink. Then continue cruising to the larger Itaparica Island for lunch. The colonial town of Itaparica has a charming waterfront which you can stroll along. Then return to the schooner, raise anchor and set off for Salvador with the setting sun flooding the city with a warm glow.
