This complete canal crossing departs from the Flamenco Marina in the early morning, and you will travel from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean on the same day. First admire the Bay of Panama and the city’s dramatic skyline before passing under the Bridge of the Americas. The vessel will then transit the Miraflores Locks, where it will be lifted 16 meters in two distinct steps.

After more locks you sail through the Gaillard Cut, where the Chagres River flows into the canal and a spot where you can appreciate the continuous maintenance that is required. Then sail across Gatun Lake and its locks, which are the only ones in the Atlantic sector. On arrival at Colon, you will disembark and be driven back to your city hotel. The tram climbs 280 feet over half a mile and at the top you can walk two minutes to the observation tower to get great views of the canal, the Chagres River as well as the Soberania National Park and the town of Gamboa.

Then see the exhibits at the Gamboa Resort together with your guide before travelling north on the canal in small boats coming close to some of the big ships that transit the canal daily. Motor slowly along the forested banks of Gatun Lake looking out for Capuchin Monkeys, three-toed sloth and various kinds of Toucans. After a restaurant lunch the tour continues to the Casco Viejo, Panama City’s colonial quarter, to see the main attractions and learn about its history. 4 Partial Panama Canal Transit

Secrets of the Canal

After the transfer from your hotel to Flamenco Resort and Marina, the partial transit starts with a motor coach ride for 45 minutes to the town of Gamboa where the Panama Canal Dredging Division is located. Here you aboard the cruise ship to start the water portion of the tour entering the canal at the north end of the Gaillard Cut, where the Chagres River flows in.

Your boat will travel 10 miles on the way to Pedro Miguel Locks. As you transit the Cut you will appreciate the continuous work in process for the Panama Canal expansion project. Pass under the new Centennial Bridge before entering the Pedro Miguel Locks and dropping down to the Pacific Ocean to sail to the beautiful Flamenco Marina. Later you can admire the Bay of Panama and Panama City's splendid skyline.
