Majestic India by luxury train tour: Save £500

Exploring India is an experience to behold – an explosion of colour, culture and culinary delights that will leave you forever under its spell. One of the best ways to truly experience this enchanting country is by its vast rail network – one of the largest in the world – and this month you can save £500 per person on a magnificent railway tour of the historic state of Rajasthan, known as “the land of kings”. Let’s take a look at some of the delights you’ll encounter on this once in a lifetime trip:

Ranthambore National Park

India2

One of the largest national parks in the north of India, Ranthambore is the perfect place to spot magnificent tigers in the wild, and a safari daytrip is sure to see you come up close and personal with this wildest of beasts. Ranthambore is a designated “Project Tiger” reserve, making it one of the best places to encounter the majesty of these awesome predators.

Jaipur

India3

Capital of the Rajasthan region, and its largest city, Jaipur is known as India’s “Pink City” thanks to the pink hue of the walls of its buildings, which bathe the city in a warming glow. The city is a wonder to behold, a feat of design ingenuity in itself thanks to its unique layout of griddled streets, around every corner of which lies a new wonder to discover.

Chittorgarh Fort

India4

The largest fort in India, Chittorgarh, or simply Chittor, as it is known, is a fantastic example of India’s ancient fortifications, and a window into its turbulent history. Believed to have been constructed in the 7th century AD, the fort spreads over an area of 2.2km2, and includes within its walls an array of ancient palaces, temples and towers, that are sure to take your breath away.

Udaipur

India5

This scenic city is known as the “City of Lakes”, or “Venice of the East”, for its location on the banks of five of India’s most beautiful lakes. Udaipur is home to a wealth of grand architecture and stunning scenery, with its palace complex teetering on the banks of the beautiful Lake Pichola, and the famous Lake Palace, cast adrift, surrounded by water.

Jodhpur

India6

Another delightful city, and the second largest in the Rajasthan region, Jodhpur provides another splash of colour to your trip. Known as Sun City for its year-round sunny climate, and “Blue City”, owing to the distinctive blue colouring of many of the buildings surrounding the city’s fortress, this ancient and charming place is full of historic and cultural delights to discover.

Taj Mahal

India7

No visit to the Rajasthan region would be complete without a trip to the world famous Taj Mahal, one of the most revered architectural masterpieces in the world, and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its white domed marble mausoleum is instantly recognisable from afar, and breathtaking up close, while the complex in its entirety is a tribute to the wonderful craft and imagination typical of historic India.

These are just some of the wonderful sights to be experienced during a trip to the Rajasthan region, one of India’s grandest and most historic destinations. Right now you can save £500 per person on a luxury 8-day train journey through this magnificent landscape, experiencing all of the palaces and fortresses, lakes, mountains and deserts that this enchanting land has to offer.
