Beginning and ending in the colourful Art Deco city of Miami, you will drive down to quirky Key West along one of America's most picturesque highways, visit Fort Myers Beach and Fort Lauderdale, and have time to experience all the Disney theme park magic in Orlando. There is something for all the family on this fun tour that can be added on to any longer holiday in the States.
On arrival at Miami International Airport clear customs and drive to your hotel. Miami is an international city, rich with a multi-ethnic culture which is reflected in the cuisine and architecture. South Beach is a particularly stunning and often intoxicatingly beautiful place. Warm breezes, swaying palms, and the sound of the waves act as a backdrop for pastel-coloured, Art Deco buildings. It is known as the American Riviera and South Beach is home to fabulous shopping, gourmet restaurants, fashion shoots and filming of TV and movies. Later it comes alive with nightspots catering for all tastes.
Today is yours to explore Miami Beach and the neighbouring greater Miami area. Experience the sights and sounds of “The Magic City”, a tropical playground full of extraordinary architectural history. There is Downtown Miami, home to renowned Bayside Marketplace, Coconut Grove, the oldest city within the Miami metropolitan area, known as Miami’s Food Court for its many and varied restaurants and open air cafes, Coral Gables, almost entirely built in Mediterranean Revival Style and Little Havana, a Cuban immigrant neighborhood famous for its landmarks like Calle Ocho and Domino Park.
Today leave Miami Beach and drive to the tropical island paradise that is Key West. You will travel through the Florida Keys on the Overseas Highway, with its stunning vistas, crossing 42 bridges to Key West, the southernmost city of the continental United States, for an overnight stay. There is always something happening in Key West. Specialty shops, outdoor cafes and restaurants line the streets, you can ride on the Conch Tour Train, visit the Ernest Hemmingway Home and Museum, and walk along Duval Street to enjoy the festive atmosphere. No visit to Key West is complete without taking part in the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square where performers, vendors and artists line the water’s edge as the sun goes down.
Leave Key West today and drive through the Upper Keys. As you continue north, Florida’s natural side, the Everglades, will start to appear. It is often called the “River of Grass” because of the slow moving waters and the abundance of saw grass. Unique plants and incredible wildlife inhabit the Everglades. Visit Shark Valley and take an Airboat Ride to see the wildlife, such as alligators, whitetail deer, river otters, and about 200 different bird species. Then continue to Fort Myers Beach for your overnight stay. Fort Myers and the surrounding islands boast some of Florida’s most natural and lovely beaches.
This morning, before leaving Fort Myers, get to know some of the most popular attractions of the area. Visit the Edison/Ford Winter Homes for a guided tour, or just relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches. Continue towards Orlando via a coastal route that will take you through the charming beach towns of Sarasota, Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island. Each of these areas has its own rhythm and appeal but they all boast white, fine-sand beaches and calm crystal clear waters. Once in Orlando, you can visit Downtown Disney, with more than 70 shopping, entertainment and dining choices. Or, see a dinner show such as Arabian Nights.
Welcome to the Theme Park capital of the world! For the next two days you can choose your itinerary from the numerous attractions this city has to offer. At Magic Kingdom Park you meet Mickey Mouse and his friends where the fantasies of Walt Disney become reality with attractions for the young, and the young at heart and an abundance of world famous thrill rides. You’re the star at Universal Studios where you can become part of the movies and enjoy more spectacular rides. There is something for everyone in Orlando's theme parks.
Today you can visit Disney’s Epcot, the park that is a showplace for the achievements of man, a tribute to innovation and imagination, and a fellowship of international culture. Here you can end the evening by watching Illuminations, a nighttime kaleidoscope of music and light. Alternatively, take a safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom to encounter real elephants, lions, and herds of zebra and giraffe. Then there is nearby SeaWorld, the premiere marine adventure park which features thrilling rides and amazing shows. The only problem in Orlando is deciding what delight to enjoy!
Bid farewell to the magic of Orlando and drive east to Kennedy Space Centre, the site of the American Space Programe and NASA headquarters. At the Visitor Centre, experience interactive simulators, live shows and close encounters with massive rockets. Meet a member of NASA’s Astronaut Corps in the Astronaut Encounter and make sure to see one of the IMAX space films on gigantic five-story screens. After your day of space exploration, continue on to Fort Lauderdale, known as the “Venice of America” because of its intricate canal system.
Enjoy the last morning in Fort Lauderdale where the arts and entertainment district runs along the Riverfront and Las Olas Boulevard has quaint shops. restaurants and galleries.
