The Three Jewels of South America

Description

This nine day Three Jewels of South America tour is a trip that really delivers. You begin in Brazil, where you will visit all the wonderful sights of Rio De Janeiro, and end up in Buenos Aires, the stunning capital city of Argentina. And to prove good things come in threes, you will also be taken to see the awe inspiring Iguassu Falls on the border between the two countries, which is one of the great natural wonders of the world. So whether you want to explore cities, relax on famous beaches or trek through jungles this tour has something for everyone.

Day 1
Arrival in Rio De Janeiro

After your flight touches down at Rio International Airport you will be met by one of our tour representatives and driven to your hotel in the city. After unpacking the rest of the day and night are free for you to explore. See some of the city sights on your own or pop down to the beach and relax while watching the local lads playing football and the girls practicing beach volleyball. In the evening there are lots of restaurants to choose from and the nightlife in Rio is second to none.

Day 2
Rio De Janeiro

After breakfast you will be picked up and taken on a half day panoramic sightseeing tour visiting the downtown area. You will see the spectacular Sambadrome - an exhibition area for renowned Samba schools - and make a brief stop at the Metropolitan Cathedral, famous for its unusual pyramid-shaped design. Later visit traditional Cinelandia Square where you find the city's main historic buildings such as the Municipal Theatre, National Library and Museum of Fine Arts. You then head towards the neighbourhood of Urca, where one of Rio's most iconic symbols is located - Sugar Loaf Mountain. Travel up Sugar Loaf by cable car, stopping at a vantage point for photos and panoramic views. Continue to the summit for more breathtaking views down to Copacabana Beach and Santa Cruz Fortress. Afternoon and evening at leisure.

Day 3
Rio De Janeiro

Today is free for you to further explore this lively city or just swim and relax on one of its many famous golden sand beaches. Lots of watersport options and if you are a football fan why not take a tour of the huge 100,000 capacity Maracana Stadium where the national team play. One of the highspots of Rio is Corcovado, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer, arms outstretched, watches over the city. You can take an optional tour to the top for a spectacular view and this excursion includes stops at some of the beaches.

Day 4
Rio De Janeiro / Iguassu

Today after breakfast you are collected from your hotel and taken to the airport for your flight to Iguassu. On arrival you will be met and driven to your chosen accommodation. In the afternoon there is a half day tour along the Brazilian side of the falls. Along a beautiful route, crossing a bridge over Iguazu River, you reach the Iguaçu National Park. From there you arrive at the falls where you get breathtaking views. You will be able to see the incomparable beauty of the falls from across a 1,200m path, with several balconies and a runway over the river up to the Devils Throat, where besides getting wet with the mist, you get the closest view of the greatest falls in South America. Evening at leisure.

Day 5
Iguassu Falls

Enjoy a full day tour today of the Argentinian side of the falls. After a short ride on a tourist train through the lush forest, you set off on foot along the upper and lower walking circuits of the national park. On the lower trail you enter deep into the jungle, crossing streams and stopping at viewing galleries to admire the falls. You can also access the San Martin Island from here. The upper trail is a series of bridges and platforms that take you across the Upper Iguassu River. The path goes deep into the jungle but suddenly opens out into a breathtaking amphitheatre of immense free-falling water. This is the Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat), the main fall, where more than 12,000 cubic meters of water cascade every second! Later enjoy another evening at leisure.

Day 6
Iguassu to Buenos Aires

After breakfast you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires where you will again be met by one of our tour representatives and transferred to your hotel. The rest of today is at leisure for you to explore the city at your own pace. A visit to the emblematic “Café Tortoni” is a must! Buenos Aires nightlife provides its own inhabitants and visitors with numerous entertainment possibilities. You can attend an unforgettable tango show performed by the best dancers and singers, while enjoying a delicious meal. This is the perfect way to experience Buenos Aires, the city that gave the world the tango.

Day 7
Buenos Aires

Today you are taken on a morning city tour. You visit the most important sites during the three hour trip. You will experience the magnificence of the Northern Quarters, Palermo and the beauty of its parks and buildings, Recoleta with its French-style architecture, bars and cafés; the imposing Colon Theatre, one of the five most important opera houses in the world; Plaza de Mayo (May Square) with the Government House, The Old Cabildo (Town Hall) and the Metropolitan Cathedral and San Telmo, a former residence of aristocracy. The colours of La Boca, picturesque quarter of Italian immigrants, and the fashion area of Port Madero, with its many bars and restaurants are also included. Evening at leisure.

Day 8
Buenos Aires

There is so much to see and do in Buenos Aires, known as the Paris of South America, that you will be spoilt for choice today. Visit the palace where Evita spoke to the nation, see the ornate cemetery where she is buried, and marvel at the city's architecture. Another option today is to see a Gaucho Festival outside the city in the Pampas, one of the most fertile natural prairies in the world. On this tour you will enjoy a reception with "empanadas" (meat pies) and "asado" (roast meat) and good Argentinian wines, a show with folk songs and dances and an exhibition of the gaucho's abilities with riding, taming and the use of the lasso.

Day 9
End of tour

Today your exciting tour of three of South America's highlights comes to an end. After breakfast at your hotel there may be some time for last minute souvenir shopping or sightseeing before you are picked up and driven to the international airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey back home.

Flew to Georgetown

If visiting Lima then I would advise any passengers to stay in Miraflores or another town outside of the city. Traffic was horrific. A thirty minute transfer to hotel took nearly three hours. It was also very threatening and unsafe in the city centre, along with friends being 'mugged' in their taxi from the airport! . Our stay in Costa Rica was incredible. Thanks again Dennis. Great job!

Unfortunately the service was terrible at the airport, especially after losing some baggage that was very important to me. However your organisation was absolutely perfect, incredibly easy, and no mess. However possibly give flyers a warning about TAP airlines before flying.
