Classic Peru Tour & Lake Titicaca

Description

Peru is probably one of the most rewarding countries in the world to visit as it has so many natural and historic wonders. And on this memorable 10 day tour you will see so much of this fascinating destination. Beginning and ending in the lovely capital city Lima, you travel to stunning Cusco and the Sacred Valley then by train to the incredible lost Inca city of Machu Picchu. Then it's on through the Andes to Puno and beautiful Lake Titicaca.

Day 1
Lima

On arrival at the international airport in Lima you will be warmly welcomed and escorted to your hotel, where you will be briefed on all of your travels during your stay in Peru. The more affluent districts of Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro, which are on the coast, offer good nightlife and cafés and all are within walking distance. Limeños (Lima's residents) are friendly, and the city is filled with excellent restaurants and seafood lovers in particular should be sure to try a ceviche, for which Lima is well known.

Day 2
Lima to Cusco

After breakfast you are driven to the airport for your short domestic flight to Cusco where you will be met at the airport and escorted you to your hotel in the city. You then have have the remainder of the day at your leisure to rest and allow your body to acclimatise to the high altitude or go out and explore some of the sights. In the evening, there are a few fine restaurants in the area that your expert guide will be happy to show you.

Day 3
Cusco

Your guided tour of Cusco and the archaeological sites begins in the afternoon with a visit to the impressive Colonial Cathedral, followed by the Temple of the Sun. From here you will be led to the outskirts of Cusco for a tour of the archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman, later visiting the ruins of Puca Pucara, Qenqo, and Tambomachay. Cuzco is considered the mecca of Peru and rightly so. This beautiful colonial town offers much to the visitor with its nearby ruins, cobble-stoned streets, museums, churches and lively atmosphere.

Day 4
Cusco / Sacred Valley

Today you travel with your local guide through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the impressive Pisac ruins and the colourful artisan market and the day trip finishes in the picturesque village of Ollantaytambo, site of another large Inca ruin. The town and fortress of Ollantaytambo are strategically situated overlooking the beautiful Urubamba River Valley. This site is known as the best surviving example of Inca urban planning and engineering and admired for its huge steep terraces guarding the fortress. Spend tonight in this stunning region

Day 5
Machu Picchu

One of the highlights of the tour today when you take the train through the spectacular Urubamba Valley to the end of the line - the village of Aguas Calientes, nestled in the hills beneath Machu Picchu. Here you can relax in the natural mountain hot baths that gave the town its name. This afternoon join a two hour guided tour at the magnificent ruins of Machu Picchu then have the rest of the afternoon at the site to explore until sunset. Then return to your hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 6
Machu Picchu to Cusco

Rise early to take advantage of viewing Machu Picchu in the early morning light. This is the best time to see the 'Lost City of the Incas'. If you don't mind the climb, you can go to the top of Wayna Picchu, with its spectacular views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding areas from above. On the train journey back to Cusco you can upgrade to the first class VistaDome train which allows for great views as you wind your way through the Sacred Valley. Tonight in Cusco you can dine inside the Pre Columbian Art Museum.

Day 7
Cusco

Today there is free time to shop for souvenirs or visit museums and churches. You can experience the sights and sounds of this great colonial town. For the more adventurous optional activities available in Cusco include horseback riding around archaeological sites such as Sacsayhuaman, Tambo Machay and Puca Pucara, white water rafting on the Urubamba River; and mountain biking down to the Sacred Valley, perhaps visiting an Inca ruin along the way.

Day 8
Cusco to Puno

An early start today when you are taken to the bus station, where you board the Inka Express through the Andean highlands with tours of Rachi, Andahuayillas, and la Raya en route. The drive is beautiful and the visits along the way are lovely as well. There is also the option to upgrade this journey to a first class train. On arrival in Puno you will be taken to your hotel. On either route, you will see spectacular views of the stark, beautiful countryside on this full day of travel to Lake Titicaca, through the high Altiplano region.

Day 9
Lake Titicaca

Today you head out onto the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca to visit the magnificent Floating Islands of Uros, as well as to explore the paths of Isla Taquile, an island filled with quaint little houses and cobblestone streets. At the end of the day you return to your hotel in Puno but there is an optional overnight homestay which provides an opportunity to learn more about rural life in the Peruvian highlands and to take part in local traditions and enjoying typical music of the area.

Day 10
Puno to Lima

Another great service provided by Logan

Flew to Lima

I liked the check-up call before our flights and how personal the service was.

Flew to Lima

If visiting Lima then I would advise any passengers to stay in Miraflores or another town outside of the city. Traffic was horrific. A thirty minute transfer to hotel took nearly three hours. It was also very threatening and unsafe in the city centre, along with friends being 'mugged' in their taxi from the airport! . Our stay in Costa Rica was incredible. Thanks again Dennis. Great job!

Flew to Lima

I knew I wanted to go to Peru and see the Incan temples, and after speaking to Eric it was clear he knew the kind of thing I wanted and could provide. It was a very easy and relaxing holiday with everything laid on. There was a great balance of rest, great hotels, sightseeing and adventure - the time in the jungle was especially exciting! The fact that Eric had done the same trip made things a lot easier as it was very helpful to talk to someone with personal experience of that tour. I felt that I was in safe hands due to his personal expertise and experiences. It was a trip of a lifetime and it showed in how he spoke about it to me beforehand - and it turned into the same for me! .
