Day 1: Arrival to Lima

On arrival at the international airport in Lima you will be warmly welcomed and escorted to your hotel, where you will be briefed on all of your travels during your stay in Peru. The more affluent districts of Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro, which are on the coast, offer good nightlife and cafes all within walking distance. Limenos (Lima's residents) are friendly, and the city is filled with excellent restaurants - seafood lovers in particular should be sure to try a ceviche, the local specialty.

Day 3: Cusco City & Surroundings

Your guided tour of Cusco and the archaeological sites begins with a visit to the impressive Colonial Cathedral, followed by the Temple of the Sun. From here you will be led to the outskirts of Cusco for a tour of the impressive archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman, later visiting the ruins of Puca Pucara, Qenqo, and Tambomachay. Cuzco is considered the mecca of Peru. This beautiful colonial town offers so much with its cobble-stoned streets, museums, churches and lively atmosphere. Among the more adventurous optional activities available are horseback riding around archaeological sites, white water rafting on the Urubamba River and mountain biking down to the Sacred Valley

Day 4: Cusco / Sacred Valley

Today you will travel with your guide through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the impressive Pisac ruins and the colourful artisan market. The day trip finishes in the picturesque village of Ollantaytambo, site of another large Inca ruin. The town and fortress of Ollantaytambo are strategically situated overlooking the beautiful Urubamba River Valley. This major ruin site is known as the best surviving example of Inca urban planning and engineering and is admired for its huge steep terraces guarding the Inca Fortress and for being one of the few places where the Spanish lost a major battle during the conquest. A 20 minute walk from Posada Amazonas leads to the 30 metre scaffolding canopy tower from where you see Toucans, parrots and macaws flying against the horizon, and exotic birds of all kinds land in the treetops next to you. Tres Chimbadas is 30 minutes by boat and forty five minutes hiking from Posada Amazonas. Once there you will paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of giant river otters and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin and horned screamers. The parrot clay lick is nearby and here you will see dozens of parrots and parakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a river bank. After lunch a boat trip downriver leads you to a trail designed by staff of the Centro Nape, a communal organisation that produces medicines out of forest plants. After dinner you will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active but rarely seen.
