Scalesia Lodge- Isabela Island

Description

It's a trip of a lifetime when you visit the amazing Galapagos Islands and this stay at Scalesia Lodge on beautiful Isabela Island is also something special. During your time here you combine land activities and boat excursions that take you to beautiful neighbouring islands. This unforgettable journey, seeing the rare animals and birds that were discovered by Charles Darwin, is filled with opportunities for adventure and relaxation.

Day 1
Arrive Isabela Island

After your flight from Quito, in Ecuador, you arrive at Baltra airport where you are met by one of our tour representatives and taken to Puerto Ayora to catch your fast boat to Puerto Villamil on Isabela Island. There you will be met by staff from Scalesia Lodge and taken to your new home for the next three days. The rest of the afternoon and evening is free for you to relax at the lodge or go out and explore on your own seeing some of the rare animal and bird species.

Day 2
Isabela Island, Tintoreras and Los Humedales

Enjoy a morning visit to the Tintoreras, an islet formed by lava flows just 10 minutes by dinghy from Puerto Villamil. Its name comes from the white tip reef sharks called in Spanish Tintoreras which are frequently seen in this area, along with marine iguanas and penguins. This area is also perfect for snorkeling. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon visit Los Humedales. This area is characterised by solitary beaches, lava tunnels, natural pools and estuaries where you can see flamingos. You also visit the turtle breeding centre.

Day 3
Isabela Island and Sierra Negra

Today you visit some of Isabela Island's best attractions, the Sierra Negra and Chico Volcanoe, one of the most active volcanoes of the archipelago. Its recent eruption took place in 2005. The volcano’s crater is considered the second largest in the world with a diameter of 10kms. Volcan Chico is also an active volcano and sulfur vents can be seen in this area. Be prepared for a six hour walk tour to appreciate all the splendor of the volcanoes. You will enjoy a box lunch in the area and return to the lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 4
Return to Santa Cruz Island

An early start today when you leave Isabela Island and return to Puerto Ayora taking the boat back to Baltra Island. Here there may be time for some more exploration before you are taken to the airport for your flight back to the mainland. On arrival in Quito, capital of Ecuador, you can stay on and see more of the sights, catch an onward flight, or begin your journey back home having experienced the unique delights of the wonderful Galapagos Islands.

Flew to Quito

We forgot to check In online for the return journey. Assumed we couldn't, only to find all 6 seats apart from 2 dotted all over the plane for flight from Bogota to London.

Don't use Iberia for long flights. It was very poor.

Gavin always understands exactly what I want, and delivers. Quick, no fuss, good price and the reassurance of actually talking to a real person! Recommended flights were excellent (Avianca) though some people may find the food limited - good quality, but not a great quantity. As I have a small appetite, this wasn't a problem for me. Otherwise, perfect.

Dennis was very efficient and sorted my flights out within an hour. He was on the ball enough to pick up a couple of months later that the airport we were returning from was closing and our travel schedule would need to be amended.

I had a very complex itinierary in South America in just under three weeks and my sales advisor was able to accomodate it all without hesitation. In addition, we needed to contact your offices whilst on holiday and the out of hours service was very prompt and got us the relevant documents immediately. I have returned with amazing memories of a fantastic once in a lifetime trip, thank you.
