Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Salvador

Your trip begins with a flight over the beautiful coastline of Bahia in the north east of Brazil to Salvador, the country's first capital. You will be met at the airport by one of our representatives and taken to your hotel. In the afternoon there is a guided tour starting at the lighthouse and fort at the entrance to All Saints Bay. Then walk through the narrow streets of the lower city past colourful colonial buildings to Pelourinho to visit the baroque. Your first night is free to sample the great local cuisine.

Day 2: All Saints Bay by boat

After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the pier in the lower city for a full day schooner tour of All Saints Bay. Great views of the city as you sail out across the blue waters passing tropical islands. Stop for lunch at the island of Itaparica, the biggest in the bay, and go for a swim or snorkel. Back to the city in the evening which is again free for you to go out and explore.

Day 3: Salvador to Lencois

You will be collected at your hotel to begin the five hour journey to Lencois. The road west passes through the Brazalian desert interior before you arrive at the old diamond mining town. The area around Lencois is a green oasis with valleys, lush forests and tumbling waterfalls. The area is home to monkeys, macaws, parrots, butterflies and jaguars. After checking in at your hotel the rest of your time is free to explore the cobbled streets or swim at the beautiful Serrano Falls.

Day 4: The Caves of Chapada Diamantina

Begin today with a visit to some of the most impressive caves and underground rivers in the nearby national park. Take a walk to some of the spectacular waterfalls and swim and snorkel in the electric blue waters of the cave at Lake Gruta de Lapa Doce. On the way back to Lencois stop at one of the flat topped mountains for panoramic sunset views.

Day 5: The falls and mountains of Chapada

On your second day in the area take a guided trek to the top of Cachoeira de Fumaca, the highest waterfall in Brazil. The journey begins in the village of Caete-Acu and when you reach the top the views across the valley are stunning. On the way back down stop to swim in the Riachinho Waterfall and arrive back in town to have dinner before your overnight journey to Salvador.

Day 6: Salvador to Praia do Forte

After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel to begin the six hour road journey to Praia do Forte. The Coconut Highway north of Salvador runs past a rocky coastline with quaint fishing villages. After arriving at your hotel the rest of the day is free for you to relax on the beautiful beaches of this delightful village. Sunset on the beach is the favourite time of day here, especially when the moon is full and rises over the sea.

Day 7: Praia do Forte

With a free day in Praia do Forte, you can relax amid the greenery of your resort, or on the paradise beaches. The reef just off the beaches acts as a natural barrier, meaning the turquoise water is calm and clear. The tidal pools that form among the coral reefs warm up making it a great place for swimming and snorkeling. In the evening eat fresh seafood cooked in Bahian style in one of the beach-side restaurants.

Day 8: Turtle watching

Another free day today in this beautiful location. Take a kayak out on the lagoon, walk the trails among the trees in the Sapiranga Nature Reserve and visit the old fort which the town is named after. You can also visit the famous turtle sanctuary and see their nesting sites. The sight of one of these beautiful creatures making her way up the beach and burying eggs at night is sure to round off this great holiday.

Day 9: Praia do Forte to Salvador

Today after breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the airport in Salvador for your onward flight or to begin your journey home. This tour can be combined with any of our other wonderful South American destinations and it is sure to leave you wanting to discover more of the exotic charms of this fascinating continent.
