If you want to see the very best that Brazil has to offer then this 10 day tour will take some beating. Starting in the pulsating city of Rio de Janeiro, where you will see all the world famous sights, you travel to the majestic Iguazu Falls, on the border with Argentina and Paraquay, to experience one of the wonders of the natural world. Then to complete this memorable journey you head north to Manaus, gateway to the Amazon rain forest, and spend exciting days exploring and seeing exotic animal, marine and bird life in the jungles and rivers.
On arrival in Rio you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel in the city. There you will be met by one of our experienced tour representatives who will go over all your travel plans. The rest of the day is free for you to relax on the famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema or get to know this marvellous city. Sunset in Rio is a special time so join the locals by the sea to watch the mountains cast shadows under a pink and golden sky before having dinner in one of the many superb restaurants.
A free morning to enjoy the beaches then after lunch your first tour in Rio begins with a journey through the largest urban forest in the world. Tijuca Forest sits on top of the mountains and there are great views. Continue to the top of Corcovado and stand next to the iconic statue of Christ with its outstretched arms and look out over the entire city. Return to your hotel at sunset and later you can join the optional Rio at Night Lapa tour.
This second tour of Rio takes you to see the historic city centre in the morning, passing the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Candelaria Church. You will then be taken to the base of Sugar Loaf Mountain to take the two cable cars to the top of the granite peak directly above the sea. The views over Guanabara Bay, down Copacabana Beach and up to Corcovado are spectacular. The afternoon and evening are free for you to relax or shop in some of the great boutiques.
You will be taken to the airport to catch a morning flight to Iguazu, giving you the first chance to see the 275 separate falls and surrounding jungle as the plane comes in to land. You then begin an immediate tour of the Brazilian side of the Falls for great panoramic views. There are also boat and helicopter tours available if you want to get close up views. Later you will be taken to your hotel and the rest of the evening is free.
After breakfast you will be taken on a tour of the Argentinian side of the falls. Here, walkways have been built around and alongside the river allowing you to experience the majesty of Iquazu from very close up. You can see, hear and feel the water tumbling down the plateau and stand on the very edge of the Devil's Throat in the mist as the water plunges to the bottom. In the afternoon return to your hotel to relax or go exploring in the surrounding jungle.
Leave early for the airport for your flight to Manaus via Sao Paulo. After flying over a huge expanse of jungle you arrive in Manaus, in the heart of the rain forest. After being taken to your hotel there is an afternoon tour of the town seeing the beautiful Manaus Theatre, with its Italian Marble, Scottish wrought iron and Amazon wood carvings. You will also visit the Municipal Market and the floating dock. Return to the Tropical hotel for an evening at leisure.
After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel for the three hour drive through the jungle to Novo Airao. From here you will board a boat for the final part of the journey to Anavilhanas Lodge, which sits on the edge of the largest freshwater archipelego in the world. In the afternoon take a boat tour around some of the many islands before returning to the lodge for dinner. Later you will have the chance to go out looking for cayman alligators, the biggest reptile in South America, along the Amazon River system.
Today you will head into the jungle on a guided trek along the trails. Your expert guide will tell you all about the flora and fauna that make up the world's largest ecosystem and teach you some of the survival techniques used by the native tribes. Learn how to use Indian tools and blowpipes and see rubber trees and orchids before returning to the lodge for lunch. Then take a motorised canoe to visit a local village and go piranha fishing before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Rise early today to admire the sunrise. Dawn in the jungle is a beautiful time, but not a quiet one, as it comes alive with the calls of thousands of birds and monkeys. Parrots, parakeets and macaws seem to be competing to make the most noise. Later there is a highlight of tour in the rain forest with a boat trip from the lodge to see, and possibly swim with, the friendly pink river dolphins. Return later for your final dinner under the stars at the lodge.
