This four day three night package makes a great add on to any touring holiday in Argentina. As well as having city tours in Salta and the wine growing area around Cafayate, you can extend this adventure combining it with visits to the wonderful capital city of Buenos Aires, the stunning water falls at Iguazu and the fascinating city of Bariloche, nestling in the foothills of the Andes. Other extensions are also available to Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia and Mendoza.
You will be met at Salta airport and taken to your hotel for a three night stay including breakfast. In the afternoon take a tour of one of the oldest cities founded in the country by the Spaniards which has a rich colonial past, reflected in its traditions and architecture. You will visit its churches and its most remarkable historical monuments and houses. Later drive to San Lorenzo ravine,12 minutes from downtown, and on the way back stop at a handicrafts market and buy some souvenirs.
Today is free for you to explore on your own, but it is a good idea to take an optional full day tour to Humahuaca Gorge and San Salvador de Jujuy, capital of Jujuy Province. The vast gorge, which is just to the north of Salta, is 97 miles long, comes complete with amazing views and intriguing archeological discoveries, and is a UNESCO human heritage site. San Salvador de Jujuy is a hidden gem often bypassed by travellers, has a liveable feel, enticing restaurants and is the most culturally indigenous of any of Argentina's cities.
Today you leave Salta for a full day tour to Cafayate, the beautiful wine producing area of the Calchaqui Valleys. After passing by Cabral Corral Dam you follow the road along the Las Conchas River Gorge, where geologic formations of breathtaking beauty, such as the Amphitheatre, the Devil’s Throat, the Friar and the Castles, will let you discover the magic of their natural formations. At the end of another action-packed day return to Salta for your final evening of the tour.
More time today to explore Salta seeing more of the sights and shopping for souvenirs in the markets. Then you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport to catch an onward flight and continue your Argentina adventure or begin your journey home. This short tour is well worth taking while travelling around this huge and fascinating country and will leave you plenty of time to visit more of the many iconic sights of South America.
