Golden Triangle

Description

If you have never been to India before then this wonderful week long Golden Triangle tour is the perfect introduction to this fascinating country. And if you are a regular visitor you will know that there is no better way to get to see so many of the iconic sights and sounds than by visiting Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. In the capital you will see all the grand landmarks, in Agra you will visit the beautiful Taj Mahal and in the 'Pink City' of Jaipur you will experience the colour of Rajasthan. Add to this a visit to the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri and this action packed tour takes some beating.

Day 1
Delhi

On arrival in Delhi you will be met at the airport by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel. India's capital and a major gateway to the country, Delhi is contemporary and a bustling metropolis which successfully combines the ancient and the modern. Its strategic location was one of the main reasons why successive dynasties chose it as their seat of power. New Delhi also reflects the legacy the British left behind.

Day 2
Delhi

After breakfast there is a full-day tour of Old and New Delhi. Visit Jama Masjid, which is the largest mosque in India, and enjoy a rickshaw ride in Chandni Chowk, the busiest market in Old Delhi … noisy, chaotic and uniquely Indian. Then visit the Red Fort, which served as the residence for the Mughal royal family. Later, drive past President House and several other government buildings in Edwin Lutyen’s Delhi before you head to Rajghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi marking the spot where he was cremated in 1948. Later in the evening visit the Qutab Minar, which is the tallest brick minaret in the world.

Day 3
Agra

This morning start the four hour drive to Agra and on arrival check-in in to your hotel. Later begin a half day city tour of Agra. Visit the Red Fort, which was commissioned in 1565 by Akbar. The beautiful yet forbidding structure is a handsome example of Mughal architecture. Later one of the highlights of the trip when you visit the beautiful Taj Mahal … a white marble mausoleum built as a symbol of Emperor Shah Jahan’s devotion to his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. Considered an architectural marvel, its construction took thousands of workers more than 21 years to complete.

Day 4
Jaipur

After breakfast drive to Jaipur on the way stopping to visit Fatehpur Sikri, which is home to many historical buildings. The red sandstone city was abandoned due to shortage of water and today Fatehpur Sikri is a UNESCO World heritage site. After your visit drive on to Jaipur and check into your hotel at the gateway to the magnificent and vibrant state of Rajasthan. In the evening take a stroll in the markets of Jaipur and see the traditional dresses and shoes, curio shops and blue pottery.

Day 5
Jaipur

Enjoy a full-day sightseeing tour of Jaipur, also known as the ‘Pink City’. Jaipur is the capital of the state of Rajasthan, and is famous for its colourful culture, forts, palaces, and lakes. Visit the Amber Fort where you ride up on the back of an elephant and see the latticed galleries and a hall decorated with thousands of tiny mirrors. Later, stop to photograph the beautiful Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of the Winds. This beautiful façade with its ornately carved windows was designed so the ladies of the palace could look out onto the streets unobserved. Later visit the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar Observatory.

Day 6
Delhi

This morning after breakfast experience the colourful scenes in Jaipur before beginning the 200 mile drive back to Delhi which takes around six hours and you will see amazing sights along the way. Once back in the capital check in to your hotel and the rest of the day and the evening is free for you to go out and explore on your own seeing some of the sights you missed on your first visit.

Day 7
Departure

Today you may have time for some more sightseeing or last minute shopping for souvenirs before being picked up at your hotel and taken to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey back home. This Golden Triangle tour is great for the first time visitor to India or the seasoned traveller as it packs in so much in a short time.

Delighted with the way they organised the flights to fit in with my requirements and the choice of hotels - except for one, Hong Kong's Mini hotel. My room on the 19th floor was miniscule. Asked for a bigger one and told they were all that size.

I had a slight problem trying to print out boarding passes from Delhi to Kathmandu due to altered flight time, but overall everything went smoothly.

Smooth as clockwork

|

It was all very good so thanks Kylie. One suggestion, the Radisson Blu in Muscat on a Friday afternoon/evening is not a pretty sight with ex-pats drinking in the pool, loud and generally smashed. Not your fault or the hotels but having the Friday buffet and an Irish bar did not help. Otherwise the flights, hotels and arrangements all perfect

Everything went smoothly and as planned. The only exception to this was, when I subsequently changed the date of my return flight my request for vegetarian meals was not carried across to the amended flights.
