Venice Simplon-Orient-Express

Description

There is simply no more stylish, relaxing or sophisticated way to travel between London and Venice than on board the Venice Simplon-Orient Express. It's wall to wall luxury the moment you board this world famous train and nothing can prepare you for this once-in-a-lifetime experience as you travel across Europe. From the 1920s to the '30s the carriages of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express played a significant role in the Golden Age of travel and today every carriage has been lovingly restored to its former glory, recreating one of the finest luxury travel experiences the world has ever known. You can also take this journey from Venice to London enjoying the same itinerary in reverse.

Day 1
Thursday or Sunday

You board the gleaming carriages of the British Pullman train at London's Victoria station, and sit back and enjoy brunch served with a Bellini as you make your way to Folkestone. On arrival, hostesses escort you on the coach transfer on the Shuttle service through the Channel tunnel to France. At Calais Ville the immaculate Wagons-Lits carriages of the continental train await. After you have settled into your comfortable private cabin it will soon be time to dress for dinner. Sip an aperitif before making your way to one of the magnificent restaurant cars. Here you will be served a delicious four course dinner, prepared by skilled French chefs. After dinner you can linger in the bar car, listening to the sound of the baby grand piano. When you are ready, retire to your cabin which has now been transformed into a cosy bedroom.

Day 2
Friday or Monday

Awake to the magnificent scenery of the Swiss Alps as breakfast is served in your cabin. Spend the morning in the Bar Car chatting to fellow guests over coffee before a leisurely three course lunch is served in another of the beautiful restaurant cars. While-away the afternoon with a visit to the on board boutique where you can buy souvenirs, or relax in your cabin and admire the spectacular scenery as the train travels through the Italian Dolomites. Later, afternoon tea is served in your cabin as you travel through the awesome Brenner Pass. All too soon it is time to prepare to disembark as the train crosses the Venetian Lagoon and pulls into Santa Lucia station. Step off the train, walk out of the station, and you are right beside the Grand Canal and ready to enjoy all that Venice has to offer.

Dylan asked for an upgrade for me and my girlfriend as it was an anniversary and they gave us a ground floor suite which was wonderful. The hotel was very near the boat station and on a small canal so we got a boat taxi one evening for 60 euros - not cheap but very romantic. We also went to see the Damian Hirst show which is mind blowing. I cannot recommend this package enough. Thank you Dylan for a lovely romantic weekend that will stay with us for ever
