Belize Jungle & Beach

Description

With one foot planted in the Central American jungles and the other dipped in the Caribbean Sea, Belize combines the best of both worlds . . . and on this eight day jungle and beach holiday you will see it all. Inland, a vast network of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries offers a safe haven for wildlife of all kinds and birders can aim their binoculars at some 570 species, which roost along the rivers and lagoons. And if that’s not enough adventure, Belize is also home to one of the world’s most mysterious civilizations – the ancient Maya. The country is sprinkled with archaeological sites and the reefs and beaches are something special.

Day 1
Arrive Belize

You will be met at Belize Airport by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel or lodge in the Cayo District, which is the country's western most region. It borders Guatemala and contains the official western border crossing into Guatemala at Santa Elena. The terrain is hilly to mountainous with rocky and limestone plateaus. Cayo is also home to the Maya Mountains - an offshoot of the great mountain range which stretches from the Cascades to the Andes.

Day 2
Caracol, Río Frío Caves and Pools

Today enjoy a free day in Cayo District , relax or enjoy many of the other activities on offer in the area

Day 3
Cayo District

Today enjoy a free day in Cayo District , relax or enjoy many of the other activities on offer in the area

Day 4
Barton Creek and Butterfly Farm or Actún Tunichil

Today you have a choice of activities. Choose between an adventurous jungle experience to Actún Tunichil Muknal or a peaceful visit to a tropical butterfly farm and a canoe ride through an intricate cave system. To visit Actun Tunichil Muknalyou will have an exciting 45 minute trek which includes traversing the jungle and wading across three streams. Once at the entrance of the cave, some swimming is required as well as climbing. Alternatively, you can tour the beautiful butterfly sanctuary then continue on to the river at Barton Creek and gently paddle along in canoes into the cave system known as Xibalba (Maya for Underworld). While floating past the crystal formations you hear how they were used for ceremonial purposes and as a burial site by the ancient Maya people

Day 5
Belize Zoo and Ambergris Caye

Today there is a change of scene when you fly to Ambergris Caye, but not before stopping and visiting the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Centre, which was started in 1983 in an effort to provide homes to a number of wild animals which had been used in making documentary films about tropical forests. Today, the Belize Zoo covers 29 acres of tropical savannah and exhibits more than 125 animals – all native to the country. After your visit travel on to the airport in time to catch your flight to Ambergris Caye, where you will be met and taken to your hotel.

Day 6
Hol Chan, Shark Ray Alley

Hol Chan means Little Channel in Mayan and is a natural break on the barrier reef where the ocean depth ranges from three to 30 feet. Here, you will enjoy seeing the breathtaking myriad of marine life and huge coral gardens, among which are flourishing stag horn corals and sea fans. Shark Ray Alley is a shallow water snorkel where you can swim with the harmless nurse sharks and southern stingrays - this adventure is famous and a "must do" for Belize. The afternoon is at leisure to relax or explore the island on our own.

Day 7
Free day on the beach

Today you can book other adventures or chill out on the lovely beaches. Ambergris Caye is the largest of some 200 cayes that dot the coastline of Belize. Ambergris is 25 miles long and a little over a mile wide, in some places, and it is located in the clear shallow waters of the Caribbean Sea just off the tip of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It is protected by the 190 miles long Barrier Reef, the second largest living coral reef in the world. In Mayan times, Ambergris Caye was a trading post and today there are lots of interesting shops.

Day 8
End of tour

Today your wonderful jungle and beach tour of Belize comes to an end. Time for some last minute sunbathing or souvenir shopping at Ambergris Caye before you are picked up at your hotel and taken to the airport for your flight back to the mainland where you can either extend your stay in Belize, catch an onward flight, or begin your journey back home

Hurricane Irma caused chaos to Florida and our flight home. Jason stepped in and sorted a rerouting back via Belize, same class and almost the same schedule. Great work.

You need to warn travellers flying with United Airlines through Houston that the place is a nightmare! 1.5 hrs between connecting flights and it took over 70 minutes to get through customs. Then with 2 young children, we had a 20 minute sprint to catch the flight and the US customs are rude, dismissive and literally do not give a damn - we have never experienced such a nightmare, both ways. Avoid Houston at all costs.

As always the service was exemplary and the pre-travel call was appreciated. Our friends who we suggested book through you too also found it a great experience. We'll be back.

Just that I'd have liked more time between flights. It worked, but I don't need the stress and don't mind spending time in the airport.

Liked the way you contacted me to check everything had arrived - it was very reassuring. Suggestion: Include airport waiting time in quote. With time zone changes this not always obvious.
