This eight day tour of Canada's beautiful west is ideal for travellers who have limited holiday time, but want to see as many of the area's highlights as possible. In just a week, this wonderful tour itinerary takes you to Calgary, Banff National Park, the Canadian Rockies, Jasper National Park, along the Yellowhead Highway through Mount Robson National Park and into the interior of British Columbia. If that isn't exciting enough, you then continue west through the imposing Fraser Canyon, before reaching the stunning Pacific coastal city of Vancouver.
After your flight arrives at Calgary’s International Airport you make your own way to your hotel in the centre of the city. Pick-up your Jonview Canada Roadbook at the front desk as you check-in. The remainder of the day is at leisure to create your own urban adventure in the Stampede City and form first impressions of Western Canada. Overnight in Calgary.
Today you leave Calgary behind and as you head west across the plains the spectacular Rocky Mountains will come into view. You will feel the majesty of these mountains as you first travel through the foothills and then enter Banff National Park where the craggy peaks loom larger the closer you get. After arrival in the bustling town of Banff, the remainder of the day is free to explore its many charms. Overnight in Banff.
Banff is a true year round destination. There is great skiing in winter and trips out into the surrounding national park in summer. Visit the Luxton Museum, take a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain or a stroll through town admiring the many shops. You can also try river rafting on the Bow River, take a boat tour on beautiful Lake Minnewanka and relax in the famous Hot Springs. Overnight in Banff.
Today take one of Canada's most spectacular road trips. You drive to Jasper via the breathtaking Icefields Parkway, said to be one of the most scenic routes in the world. Stop on the way at beautiful Lake Louise and Peyto Lake. A visit to Maligne Canyon in Jasper National Park should also be on your itinerary. Spend the night at the resort town of Jasper.
The Yellowhead Highway will take you on a route first explored by trappers and traders. You will pass Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Rockies, and if there's time explore Wells Gray Provincial Park, a nature reserve priding itself on the untamed and pristine state of its wilderness. Continue to Sun Peaks, a year-round resort catering for families as well as sports enthusiasts. Overnight in Sun Peaks.
Travel through sagebrush-covered ranch lands along the cowboy country of South Thompson River. Entering between the towering rock walls of the Fraser Canyon, you’ll be amazed at the whitewater rapids of the Fraser River gushing far below. See Hell’s Gate gorge and take a gondola ride over the canyon. Further downstream, the lush Fraser Valley opens up as you approach Vancouver. Overnight in Vancouver.
Today you can explore this great city and the surrounding area. Climb aboard a San Francisco-style trolley for a fully commented Vancouver city tour and sight see at your own pace as you hop-on and hop-off for any length of time. The trolley stops at most top attractions, parks, gardens, galleries and restaurants. Also be sure to visit Gastown. Overnight in Vancouver.
Today your whistle stop tour of western Canada's highlights comes to an end. Possibly time for some last minute shopping in trendy Robson Street before transferring to the airport for your onward flight or journey back home.
