West Coast Explorer

Description

Lots of visitors to Australia stop in Perth to experience all that this great oceanside city has to offer before or after heading off to other famous Down Under destinations like Sydney, Melbourne, the Great Barrier Reef and Ayers Rock in the Red Centre. But for anyone wanting to enjoy the best of the west coast of Oz, then this 11 day explorer tour is just perfect and will take you to lots of memorable places.

Day 1
Broome

Your west coast adventure begins when you pick up your hire car today in Broome and spend some time exploring the town which has lots of natural attractions and is renown for its pristine beaches and bays and the sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean. Broome’s world famous Cable Beach is a classic example of this beauty and boasts around 20 miles of white sand and clear tropical waters making it a great place to relax and soak up the sun before the tour.

Day 2
Broome

Another day at leisure to enjoy Broome and explore the town, beach and the beautiful surroundings. Often referred to as the pearl of North West Australia, Broome is the coastal gateway to the magnificent wilderness region of the Kimberley making it one of the state’s most popular holiday destinations. Today you can take a camel ride along Cable Beach, find out about the fascinating history of the Broome hard hat divers or visit a pearl farm. See dinosaur footprints on a hovercraft ride or kayak around Gantheaume Point.

Day 3
Broome to Port Hedland

It's worth leaving Broome early today to begin the 550 mile drive to Port Hedland. Travel on the Great Northern Highway, a spectacular road which runs parallel to the sparkling Indian Ocean and Eighty-Mile Beach. The road also runs through The Great Sandy Desert so great photo opportunities whenever you stop. Port Hedland is the gateway for Australia’s massive iron ore exports from the surrounding Pilbara region and you stay the night here after your long drive.

Day 4
Port Hedland to Karratha

A mere 200 mile drive today when you leave Port Hedland and travel to Karratha, via the small town of Roebourne. This town was once the administrative centre of the region, but now, with a population of less than 1,500, it has been overshadowed by other towns and industries. Karratha was established on Nickel Bay, as there was no suitable land to continue expanding at Dampier. Karratha is the commercial centre of the Pilbara and the place you stop for the night.

Day 5
Karratha to Coral Bay

Another long drive today when you leave your hotel in Karratha and travel on the North West Coastal Highway south to Coral Bay, a distance of around 450 miles. The turn-off for Coral Bay is just north of the Minilya Roadhouse. Coral Bay is the gateway to the fantastic coral of Ningaloo Reef and the Ningaloo Marine Park with its underwater viewing platform. This reef is rich in colour and diversity and rivals the Great Barrier Reef on the east coast for diving, snorkelling and viewing marine life.

Day 6
Coral Bay

After all the driving of the past few days you can relax and enjoy a complete day at leisure to explore this magnificent coastal region and reef. Perhaps take a half day snorkel cruise to get up close to the majestic Manta Rays and the beautiful colourful coral. Coral Bay is literally bursting with both marine and land wildlife and is the perfect place for people of all ages who are seeking relaxation, adventure or simply something completely different.

Day 7
Coral Bay to Carnarvon

A shorter drive today so you may want to stay for a little longer in this paradise destination before heading south to Carnarvon. Begin the 200 mile journey by rejoining the North West Coastal Highway just before the Minilya Roadhouse. Carnarvon, some 700 miles north of Perth on the mouth of the Gascoyne River, is the commercial centre of this highly productive region. The popular Shark Bay world heritage area lies to the south of town and the tourist town of Exmouth is to the north.

Day 8
Carnarvon to Monkey Mia

From Carnarvon continue the journey south today for 150 miles to the Overland Roadhouse and turn right and travel into Monkey Mia on Shark Bay. At Monkey Mia, see such sights as Hamelin Pool, a marine reserve that contains the world’s best known colony of stromatolites. You should also stop at the stunning 100 mile long Shell Beach. From Denham it is 20 miles to Monkey Mia where you can see the dolphins or just relax on the fantastic beaches. There are also sunset boat tours to view the ‘sea cows’ which graze among the seagrass beds.

Day 9
Monkey Mia to Kalbarri

Take the chance to see the dolphins this morning, before you depart Shark Bay and rejoin the highway for the drive south to Kalbarri. This afternoon you can take a trip to the stunning Kalbarri National Park and Murchison River, with its spectacular gorges that are covered with wild flowers. Kalbarri is a scenic coastal village on the estuary of the Murchison River and you stay here tonight after a drive of around 250 miles. Dine out in one of the many restaurants and sample the local cuisine.

Day 10
Kalbarri to Geraldton

Just a couple of hours driving today as you leave Kalbarri and head back out to the highway and once again turn south. Travel along the North West Coastal Highway to Geraldton, which is the main port and administration centre of the mid west region. Geraldton has a year-round sunny climate and mild winters which makes it one of Western Australia’s most popular holiday destinations. The town and surrounding districts are noted for the beautiful wild spring flowers and the picturesque countryside.

Day 11
Geraldton to Perth

You final drive of the tour today when you travel from Geraldton via Greenough to Cervantes and the Nambung National Park. From Cervantes it's only a short drive to the Pinnacles in the national park then it's another 150 miles on to Perth. Your vehicle is booked until tomorrow and should be returned by the same time it was collected on the first day. Stay on and see the sights in this great western Australian city before heading to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey home.

My allocated consultant responded quickly with an itinerary to my specs and then adapted it in response to my suggestions so it was exactly what I needed. What more could we want? Thanks

Once again Sally came up with the perfect trip. Everything was as promised, couldn't fault the flights, and the hotel in Singapore was fantastic.

Roray and Gary listened to what we wanted and then supplied it. We had a "blast" with our grandson, who took to longhaul like a pro. The room that was booked exceeded our expectations. We have travelled and recommended DialAFlight many times

Thanks again to Oscar for making all the arrangements, great to be able to arrange our holidays with a company which does not require you to try and get sense out of a stupid computer, is based in the UK, and is staffed with people who speak the language fluently!

I thought all my flights were with Emirates but was surprised that two of were with Qantas. The Qantas planes were old and the crew were not at all attentive as the Emirates crew were fantastic.

Why do I deal with DialAFlight? I choose where to go and Matthew and the fantastic team go to work. I then relax knowing everything will be just perfect and it always is. I am waiting for the day when they get something wrong .. if I live that long!

I can't express how good the package you found for me to Australia was. I was travelling solo, the limo service to and from both airports arrived in plenty of time, the flight was delightful, altogether a fantastic experience and I have told everyone and will continue to spread the word. DialAFlight you are the best.

We were ashamed to fly BA in the last sector. Compared to Qatar, BA was shabby and tired both the seating, food and service.
