7 nights Palm Cove with a fabulous 5 day cruise on the Reef
You can swim, snorkel, dive and sail the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, the living masterpiece that's so big it can be seen from outer space. It stretches more than 2,000 kilometres along the Queensland coast, from the mainland towns of Port Douglas to Bundaberg. On this five day cruise you hop between the pristine, palm-fringed islands on top, then explore the rainbow-coloured coral islands and marine life below.
Board your Coral Expeditions vessel in the afternoon and sail out of Cairns. There's plenty of time to settle in to your 'home' for the next four nights. Enjoy Champagne on the top deck before dinner while admiring the stunning sunset. Then settle down for a good night's sleep as you cruise out to the Great Barrier Reef.
Visit one of the uninhabited islands of the reef. Enjoy a swim or glass bottom boat trip getting a close up view of the spectacular marine life. Later cruise to historical Cooktown, where Captain James Cook took refuge during his voyage of discovery. See original artifacts from his vessel, the Endeavour, at the Cooktown museum then relax on the island.
Arrive at Lizard island and climb the peak that Captain Cook scaled back in 1770. There is time to snorkel off the beach over coral cays and see giant clams and a profusion of tropical fish. Enjoy a glass bottom boat trip with a marine biologist or scuba dive with an instructor. Later cruise to Ribbon reef for more water activities.
Spend today exploring Ribbon reef and Rachel Carson reef, two magnificent reefs that offer some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. This is your last opportunity for a diving experience on this cruise. There is also another chance for a glass bottom boat trip around these two reefs.
Say farewell to the Great Barrier Reef today as you sail back to Trinity Wharf at Cairns with a lifetime of memories. This short cruise is an ideal way to experience the Reef in all its glory and makes a wonderful diversion while on holiday in Australia.
