Description

Australia is a country with so many famous icons and on this terrific tour, which takes you all over this vast country, you will see most of them. Beginning in Melbourne, where you explore the city, next stop is the Great Ocean Road before flying north to Alice Springs and a memorable trip to Ayers Rock and the Olgas. Then you head off east to one of the natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef before ending the 13 day trip in the wonderful city of Sydney. This tour is a great way to see all the best that Australia has to offer.

Day 1
Arrive Melbourne

On arrival at Melbourne Airport you will be met and driven to your hotel in the city. The remainder of the day is at leisure for you to relax after the journey then go out and explore on your own seeing some of the sights and possibly trying one of the many fine restaurants. You will be staying in Melbourne for three nights so you will have plenty of time to get to know it.

Day 2
Melbourne Sights – Penguins

After breakfast enjoy a morning tour of Melbourne seeing all the sights. Then in the afternoon depart for Phillip Island, stopping at the Warrook Cattle Farm on the way to see sheep, cattle, kangaroos and Australian birds. Visit the Koala Conservation Centre and watch the famous Penguin Parade, as the little penguins march up the sand to their resting places. Return to Melbourne for dinner and overnight.

Day 3
Great Ocean Road

Today you leave the city behind and head south to the coast to travel along the famous Great Ocean Road where you will see dramatic coastal scenery on your journey to Port Campbell National Park. You will drive through the seaside resorts of Lorne and Apollo Bay, then see the magnificent Twelve Apostles rock formations, the remains of London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge. Later return to Melbourne.

Day 4
Melbourne – Alice Springs

You will be picked up at your hotel and taken to Melbourne Airport for your early morning flight to Alice Springs. On arrival at this famous outback town you will be met and driven to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy a tour of the town, seeing the historic Telegraph Station, Royal Flying Doctor Service, School of the Air and the Alice Springs Reptile Centre. You will also be taken to the top of Anzac Hill where you get panoramic views.

Day 5
Alice Springs – Ayers Rock

A great day today when you leave early for Ayers Rock Resort, stopping at a camel farm where you can take an optional ride. This afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the facilities at Ayers Rock Resort. Sip a glass of wine this evening while watching sunset over Uluru (Ayers Rock) from the special viewing area known as the ‘sunset strip’. Then travel to an exclusive venue to enjoy an Australian barbecue dinner. There will also be time for stargazing.

Day 6
Kata Tjuta (the Olgas)

Another early start today to view Ayers Rock at sunrise. Tour the caves at the base of Uluru and hear stories of the Aboriginal Dreamtime. Visit the Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, before returning to the Resort. This afternoon travel through desert plains to mysterious Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). Enjoy a two to three hour walk through the domes to the Valley of the Winds lookout. Then take in a spectacular sunset at Kata Tjuta with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine.

Day 7
Uluru (Ayers Rock) – Cairns

This morning you are free to enjoy the facilities of Ayers Rock Resort, maybe take another trip out to the rock itself and walk around it, or just relax and soak up the hot sun in Australia's Red Centre. In the afternoon you will be picked up at your hotel and driven to Ayers Rock Airport for your flight to Cairns where you will again be met by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel in the city.

Day 8
Great Barrier Reef

Another memorable day today when you are taken on a cruise on a high-speed catamaran out to the Great Barrier Reef. Here you view the coral and tropical fish from the underwater observatory and semi-submersible vessel. Snorkelling gear is included so you can get up close and personal with the marine life. Enjoy a reef education presentation on this natural living wonder followed by a buffet lunch before returning to Cairns.

Day 9
Tjapukai – Kuranda – Skyrail

Today you visit the award-winning Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, where the legends of the Dreamtime are brought to life. Learn about this ancient culture through theatres, shows and dance demonstrations. Travel on the Skyrail Cableway high above the canopy of the rainforest to the picturesque village of Kuranda, where you’ll have free time to stroll through the markets. Then board the famous Kuranda train for a breathtaking rail journey over the Barron Gorge, through the coastal sugarcane fields to Freshwater Station.

Day 10
Cairns – Sydney

Say farewell to tropical Queensland today when you are picked up at your hotel and taken to Cairns Airport for the final leg of your Australian adventure, your flight to Sydney. Again you will be met at the airport and taken to your city hotel and the rest of the day and the evening is free for you to explore, see some of the famous sights and sample the energetic nightlife.

Day 11
Sydney Sights and Harbour Cruise

This morning cross over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and pause at Milsons Point to photograph fabulous views of the city skyline. Stop at Arabanoo lookout for a spectacular panorama of the Manly headland. See Sydney’s white sandy northern beaches including Curl Curl and Freshwater then feel the sand between your toes on Manly Beach. Return to the city for a buffet luncheon cruise on Sydney Harbour and in the afternoon tour the city seeing the Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens and Mrs Macquarie’s Chair. Finish your day with a visit to famous Bondi Beach, where you’ll have time to wander along the shoreline and dip your toes in the clear cool water.

Day 12
Blue Mountains

After breakfast today you are taken on a tour of the fabled Blue Mountains where you can marvel at the spectacular views of the Three Sisters from Echo Point. Visit Scenic World where you have the chance to ride the world’s steepest railway. Then stop in Leura, with its charming antique shops. The only problem we had was booking seats prior to leaving. We booked Emirates flights but because the return flight was provided by Qantas we had to book these on two different web sites! Great service by Damian.

Flew to Melbourne

Sadly one airport insisted I had a paper copy of my visa and almost refused to let me get on the plane. Also I was not asked to pre-order my meals at the time of booking which meant I was not able to get vegetarian meals on the flights. Other than that a great friendly service.

Etihad service was excellent but the planes were not as good as Emirates. Not as much room to walk about and some of the TV's were not working. Not good on long flights!
