When visiting Vietnam as well as seeing all the famous sites in the big cities it's well worth taking this short tour which begins and ends in Hanoi. Along the way you will see lots of the country's natural beauty and meet the people living in some of the outlying villages and get to experience their way of life. Combine this with a visit to spectacular Halong Bay and you have the perfect add on to any visit to Indochina.
This morning leave Hanoi and travel west to the town of Mai Chau, which is primarily inhabited by the Thai people. This ethnic group, like all others in Vietnam, has its own identity with a unique dress, language, and customs. On arrival check into the Mai Chau lodge before taking a walk, or cycle, through the beautiful valley to neighbouring villages. This is a great chance to learn about hill tribe life - a world away from Vietnam's frantic cities. Visit Mo Luong (Soldiers) Cave and enjoy a sunset drink before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning before being driven to the town of Ninh Binh, where you arrive at lunch time. This afternoon take a take a paddle boat ride through the karst limestone fringed waterways of the Trang An Eco Region. Described as the Halong Bay on land, you venture through multiple water caves and view some amazing pagodas set amid stunning verdant backdrops. This trip allows for some amazing photo opportunities in a unique region of Vietnam. Late afternoon and evening at leisure.
Today you are driven to Halong Bay, considered Vietnam’s greatest natural wonder. The bay boasts more than 3,000 islands that rise out of the sea to provide a spectacular natural environment and on the way you see the captivating rural scenery. After boarding your boat, enjoy a tasty seafood lunch as you head out into the bay. Then cruise among the islets, stopping to explore grottoes and swim in the clean, warm waters. Also stop at Titop Mountain where you can climb for a spectacular view. In the evening relax over dinner as the sun sets.
Today your short tour comes to an end, but not before you have enjoyed more of the beauty of Halong Bay. Wake up early to see the sunrise and after breakfast continue cruising among the many spectacular islets and visit several more fascinating caves and grottoes. Finally leave the bay and head back towards the wharf where you will be picked up and driven back to either your hotel in Hanoi to continue your hoiliday or to the international airport to catch your flight back home.
